O'Brien took his maiden Peugeot 206 victory on the opening round, the Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally, second on January's Red Kite Rally, and a comfortable third on last weekend's Wydean to clinch the overall honours and the £2,000 prize voucher.

Partnered by Barry Young on the maps, Irishman O'Brien said at the finish " I've been very lucky, we had a good result on the Galloway Hills, and I've driven with one eye on the Championship for the rest of the rallies."

Richard Sykes finished the series in runners up position, after being unable to start the Galloway Hills Rally, taking victory on the Red Kite and suffering a string of mechanical problems on the Wyedean, " One day", said the ever cheerful Sykes at the finish of the Wyedean, " Maybe the luck will be with me for this years Super Cup"

"I've stuck with the new soft compound Kumho tyres on all three rallies, and its been a big change to last year, especially where its been cold and wet."

With the opening round of the Super Cup now less than two weeks away, the Winter Cup Champion now looks forward to the challenge of the Sunseeker Rally.
