Peugeot 206 1400 Challenge
Round One - Wyedean Forest Rally - 14th February 2004

Stourbridge Peugeot supporter Richard Sykes will take the wheel of a works prepared 1400cc Peugeot 206 this weekend three months after contesting his final round of the 2003 206 Super Cup

The Wyedean Forest Rally was always in the Midlanders plans but his move to the BTRDA Formula 1400 rally Championship was set to be in his newly built Peugeot 106.

It was always going to be tight finishing the 106 before the event, commented Sykes, but shortage of parts nearly scuppered my rally completely. So since I have supported the Peugeot one make championship for several years I thought it was worth asking Peugeot for a loan of their car!

His steed will be the new Peugeot 206 1400 Challenge specification car which was built late in 2003 as a development project. Although it has completed rally distance, it has only been used at Silverstones handling stage. Peugeot Sport UK manager Mick Linford is the only person to have driven the car before me, continued Sykes, So I will have to report on my findings and keep it straight.

Whilst it isnt usual for Peugeot Sport to loan out cars, the opportunity to do some competitive miles was not one to be missed. said a Peugeot Sport representative, Richard was always on the pace in the 206 Super Cup so he will be good for the other Peugeot 1400 Challenge drivers to gauge themselves against.

With 850 prize money split between the top four on each of the ten BTRDA events and kits available at only 5995, the TOTAL supported 206 1400 Challenge should be extremely popular. Watch out for Sykes running near the front of the field this weekend, not in his 106, hell be in the 206 carrying number 205!

PEUGEOT LAUNCH NEW 1,400cc CASH BONUS SCHEME
Peugeot Sport UK, in conjunction with TOTAL, today announced a new initiative to help aspiring rally drivers to compete in a well established quality gravel championship, in an affordable 206 car.

The new cash bonus scheme will be available to competitors competing in the well established and highly respected Silkolene BTRDA 1,400 Championship. Competitors will need to be registered with the Peugeot Rally Club and driving a Peugeot 206 fitted with a specific Peugeot Sport conversion kit. These kits will be available from Peugeot Sports Special Tuning department at a cost of 5,995 (STG) including VAT.

All the driver needs is a second hand 1,400cc three door Peugeot 206 to bolt the kit to and he/she is ready to compete.

The comprehensive kit includes roll cage, competition seats, seat belt harnesses, steering wheel and boss, hydraulic hand brake kit, fly off hand brake, competition suspension, uprated brakes, H/D suspension mountings, sump guard, tank guard, wheels, exhaust system, master switch, brake lines, competition clutch etc.

The cash bonus payments will be there for the taking on each one of the ten BTRDA Championship rounds, with payments of 400, 250, 150 and 50 to the first four registered finishers.

Peugeots Motorsport Manager Mick Linford said, Our aim was to give drivers, both young and old, the opportunity to build a competitive car for under 10,000, ready to go. This I believe we have achieved, with used cars now being readily available for as little as 3,000.

The 206 is a well proven package and competitors will be able to compete on quality gravel events, knowing that they have an equal chance of taking some prize money home. Its all about us doing our best to make rallying more affordable and available to aspiring competitors. This is an ideal first championship in rallying, a step up for single venue event competitors, or an alternative to some of the other starter level one make championships.
