206 Cup - The Scottish International Rally - 14-15 Jun 03

Round three of the one make series took the Motorsport Ireland Billy Coleman finalist Dessie Keenan and navigator Enda Sherry to Dumfries, southwest Scotland in their Squealing pig sponsored Peugeot 206. The event comprised of six predominately gravel and very rough stages on Saturday and five on Sunday.

Weather conditions on Saturday were dry which left rising dust on the gravel stages a problem. Dessie and Enda had no major problems all day and retreated into Dumfries on Saturday night positioned a comfortable 7th overall.

Saturday must have been the ‘calm before the storm’ because misfortune struck on stage one Sunday morning with the Peugeot suffering no less than three punctures due to the razor-sharp stones on the stage. One of the shredded tires proceeded to rupture the fuel tank, leaving a lot of work to be completed as the car arrived for its first service. With all problems sorted, Dessie completed the remaining four stages of the rally without any other problems. Dessie finished in 7th place, just 0.2 seconds behind 6th place driver Rodney Wilton, a fellow Irish competitor from Co. Cavan. Valuable points were gained and this now leaves Dessie 7th on the championship leader board. The 4th round takes the team to the ‘Jim Clark Rally’ in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 5th and 6th. This is a predominately tarmac event and Dessie and Enda will be hoping to gain more valuable points to increase their position on the Peugeot 206 Supercup championship leader board!
