IRISH MOTORSPORT AND VOLUNTARY WORK OVERSEAS BENEFIT FROM FIRST FISHER FOUNDATION AWARDS

Seven Irish Motorsporting Organisations will receive grants to improve motorsporting safety to the tune of £10,500 as a result of the first bi-annual distribution of funds from The Fisher Foundation and a further £7,500 is being allocated to send Garry Jennings on a winter rallying safety training scheme in Norway.

The Foundation formed by Fisher Engineering as a permanent memorial to the lives of Bertie, Mark and Emma Fisher who died following an air accident on the 21st. January 2001, assists the development of motor sport safety, young rally driver safety, and voluntary Christian service overseas.

“We are confident that the first Fisher Foundation Awards will help to perpetuate the influence that Bertie, Mark and Emma had in both Motor sport and voluntary Christian work abroad. Applications have been received from across the land, and I hope that the Foundations contributions towards improving motor sporting safety will be of considerable help during this difficult period for the sport.

We had to consider the Young Driver Safety Award very carefully, because as you will be aware Garry Jennings is already sponsored by Fisher Engineering and he comes from Ballinamallard! In the final analysis however, it would have been a grave injustice (considering the presentation quality of his application and his outstanding achievements in 2002), not to have given this highly talented young driver this prestigious hotly contested award.” Said Ernie Fisher, Chairman of the Foundation.
