Seamus Leonard took his Seamless Aluminium backed GpN Subaru to 3rd placed GpN Tarmac Championship points on last weekend's Jim Clark Rally in Scotland. The Omagh man now heads for this Sunday's showpiece World Rally Experience event at Punchestown

The Jim Clark Rally could have been so much better for Seamus. His Impreza ran faultlessly. Seamus was comfortably on the pace and leading Tarmac series GpN driver. However, an early arrival error brought 2 minutes of road penalties. This happened more than half way through the rally. Seamus pulled out all the stops, however it was too late to fight back into a winning position.

Although slightly down hearted at the Edinburgh finish ramp, Seamus was positive about the second half of the Tarmac Championship. He commented, "This Sunday's Punchestown wasn't on the schedule, but it should be an enjoyable day out. However the serious business will come on the Manx Rally in three weeks time. Seamless Aluminium has backed me to the hilt with this new Subaru, and I feel I'm letting them down a wee bit. The car is perfect, and it is up to us. I think we have the speed to pull back in the Tarmac Championship before the year is out."

This Sunday's Punchestown rally starts on Sunday morning with an untimed run at 10.30 and then there will be 6 timed stages throughout the day culminating with a prize-giving at 18.00 hrs. Colin McRae is the No.1 seed in his Ford Focus WRC, and most of the top Irish drivers will be amongst the 41 invited crews.
