O’Donovan stars in Tipp but local hero Meagher takes the win
Frank Meagher emerged as the winner of the eighth round of the Dunlop National Rally today when the local hero won the Clonmel based Tom Hogan Motors Stonethrowers Rally by eight seconds from early rally leader Donal O’Dovonan.

Driving his Eircom.net Toyota Celica, O’Donovan took the rally lead on the third stage when he set the first of three consecutive fastest stage times but a massive last minute charge by Meagher turned the table on the West Cork driver. Meagher going 36 seconds fastest over the final two stages.

Round three of the one make series took the Motorsport Ireland Billy Coleman finalist Dessie Keenan and navigator Enda Sherry to Dumfries, southwest Scotland in their Squealing pig sponsored Peugeot 206. The event comprised of six predominately gravel and very rough stages on Saturday and five on Sunday.

The second round of the Peugeot 206 Super Cup returned to the North East of England for two days of consecutive rallying on the Pirelli National Rally on Friday evening and the Pirelli Gateshead Rally on Saturday.

The Pirelli National Rally started in the late afternoon from the spectacular Baltic Arts Centre on Gateshead Quayside with the Millenium Bridge as a backdrop, and went immediately into a pair of very short spectator stages around the roads of the Baltic Business Park before proceeding to the more traditional forest stages in Kielder Forest.

Thirteen Peugeot competitors started the final and deciding round of the Peugeot 206 Winter Cup from Bournemouth, five of them with a chance of taking the title. Seventy five competitive miles divided into sixteen stages awaited them, beginning with the spectacular high speed sprint along Bournemouth Promenade in blinding sunshine.

The first round of the inaugural Peugeot 206 Winter Cup got away to a cracking start with fourteen starters, of whom no fewer than eight were competing in Peugeot 206’s for the first time.

The 45 stage mile event started from the hospitable town of Castle Douglas in South West Scotland under brightening skies, although heavy overnight rain had made the stages very slippery indeed.

The fourth round of the Pirelli British Rally Championship began on the Isle of Man amid cold and damp weather conditions but finished up bright, dry and successful for Team Peugeot TOTAL. Irishman and Peugeot works driver, Garry Jennings won the Super 1600 category and finished the Manx International Rally in seventh place overall.
