Last year Monaghan Motor Club ran their 1st Motorsport Show as a prelude to our Annual Stages Rally. The show had a combination of rally cars, karts, trade stands, face painting etc. It was an overwhelming success with and estimated 3000 people through the doors.

This year a bigger and better show is being organized for 2nd March in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan where this year's Monaghan stages rally will be launched in conjunction with the launch of The Quinn Group sponsored Border Stages Championship.

A crowd of 130 competitors, marshals and other interested party’s gathered at The Hotel Kilmore in Cavan on Tuesday the 18th of February last to attend Cavan Motor Club’s Safety In Motorsport Seminar. The majority of those present were Clubmembers, but there were many others who travelled from the Southern Counties as well as from Northern Ireland.

Victory in the Midland Navigation Trial, which finished at Athlone early on Sunday, was enough to clinch the Motorsport Ireland National Navigation Championship for the Monaghan/Cavan pairing of Andy Mackarel and Liam Higgins in their Ascona.

After a tricky 120 mile route in Co Roscommon, they had four marks to spare over local crew Gerry Kelly and Richie Howard, but there was disappointment for the O’Neill brothers, Ray and Stephen, who led the championship points table before the start.

THE NEW YEAR STAGES is set to take place on Saturday 18 January despite earlier concerns that not enough entries had been received for the event.

The problem arose when it became apparent that regulations which were posted to competitors in late November didn't arrive at their intended destinations and many competitors didn't know the event was due to take place. This resulted in a severe lack of entries received by the 500 Club in the lead up to the event but Club Chairman, Donal O'Neill, has just confirmed with Ral.ly Portal that the 2003 New Year Stages will definitely take place.
