The Rallies Committee have announced the introduction of a new streamlined National Championship format for the next five years.

Beginning next year the Championship will consist of ten rounds down from 14, with a competitors best eight scores to count.

With 13 valid applications before the Rallies Committee, (ALMC withdrawing to become a 2-day national rally) they have agreed a system which will entail the clubs running non-championship events based on a rotation system.

The move is seen as a major step forward for the championship when combined with the recent changes to the 2000 fixture list which allow more events aimed at the clubman and the option of starting 150 instead of 130 cars on each rally it is fair to say the Rallies Committee deserve credit for their efforts.

All of these changes form part of the strategic plan for Irish Motorsport 'Motorsport 2000' which was launched last year and set as one of it's six goals to 'protect and maintain the popularity of Rallying'.
