O’Connell Group Cork 20 International Rally 2021 Press Release 1

Planning for this years O’Connell Group Cork “20” International Rally 2021 is now at an advanced stage with little over 2 weeks to go to see the return of closed road rallying in Ireland after nearly 18 months of a layoff. The organisers have been working night and day over the course of the last 4 weeks since being given the green light to put together the event, which the organisers are delighted and encouraged by the support shown by all stakeholders to get the rally up and running.

The response from competitors since the entries opened 2 weeks ago has been magnificent with a maximum high quality full entry achieved with entries still coming in, entries will remain open and so the organisers would encourage any interested competitors to submit their entries early so as to avoid disappointment.

Commenting today, Clerk of the Course, Kevin O’Riordan outlined
“that the event is shaping up to be a terrific occasion, not least to see stage rallying back again after such a long layoff, but to see such a positive and encouraging response from competitors resulting in both a quality and maximum entry was great to see. In giving an insight to the quality and quantity of entries received, Kevin outlined that there is great representation down throughout all of the categories and classes with 4 WRC’s, 30 R5’s, 27 Cls 14’s, 20 Cls 13’s, 24 Cls 11’s amongst the largest supported classes with the rest of the impressive field made up of a quality mix of Cls’s 9-24, there is also a strong Junior Cls16 entry and Historic entry so there will be some great battles out on the stages. Kevin, went on to say that a huge debt of gratitude has to go to a large collective of associated parties, the residents along the stages who openly welcomed the rally coming back to their area and proposing to close the roads, Cork County Council for their ongoing support in the road closing application process, The Gardai, Emergency Services and Motorsport Ireland and many many more, too many to mention”.

The event this year will feature a “Shakedown Stage” on the Saturday evening in the Watergrasshill area with service in the fabulous Kartworld Complex, Watergrasshill who kindly offered the use of the facility in support of the event. The rally itself will take place over 9 stages in the Rathcormac, Glentane & Ballylusky areas with centralised service in the state of the art Cork Marts facility, Corrin Rathcormac. The headquarters base for the event is once again the Radisson Blu Hotel, Little Island.

The event recently welcomed onboard new title sponsor for the event, the O’Connell Group, Glanmire with ongoing valuable support from long term sponsors, Acesigns Signmakers, Radisson Blu Hotel and CB Toolhire, we thank them all sincerely for their support.

Format: 3x3 Format - 9 stages - 117.30km stage Mileage / low road mileage
Shakedown Stage: Saturday 18th Sept - 4km stage - available to all competitors
Rally HQ: Radisson Blu Hotel Little Island, Cork - for competitors wishing to book hotel, contact hotel and quote "Cork 20 Rally"
There is a rate for competitors - limited availability so book early!

International / National / Historic Rallies: € 895
Junior Rally: € 725 (compete on all 9 stages)
