2020 ADAC Rallye Deutschland cancelled

The ADAC Rallye Deutschland cannot take place as planned this year due to a lack of approvals from the responsible authorities.

The German round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) was originally planned in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate in mid-October. The permits required there could ultimately not be obtained despite all efforts. All ticket buyers for the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will automatically be reimbursed the purchase price of their tickets.

The official ban on major events with spectators present has been extended until the end of October in order to contain the corona pandemic, so the ADAC has been working hard in recent weeks on plans to hold the rally in the absence of spectators on the wide-open spaces of the military training area at Baumholder. Due to the high number of people necessarily involved in the rally in the service park at Bostalsee (Saarland), and during the planned special tests on the "Panzerplatte" (Rhineland-Palatinate), the rally is ultimately not approvable from an official point of view.

"In the past few weeks we have worked well and constructively with the Saarland Ministry of the Interior, the local authorities and the Bundeswehr in Baumholder. Unfortunately, the official requirements do not allow the rally to take place. Even according to the requirements of Rhineland-Palatinate, a maximum of 350 people are permitted on the military training area under certain conditions. With this number of people, including participants, a World Championship round cannot be carried out. In addition, the area in Baumholder has a circumference of around 80 km. As an organizer, you cannot ensure that the site is secured in such a way that people cannot gain unauthorized access and thus violate official requirements", said ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss.

All those who have bought tickets for the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be informed by email and will automatically receive a refund in the next few days.
