"It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Cecil Sparks who died peacefully on Saturday last, 23rd September 2017, in the care of the doctors and staff of the Beacon Hospital. Cecil’s contribution to the Royal Irish Automobile Club, both as board member and Chairman was immense. As though that were not enough he also served on the board of Motorsport Ireland and as Chairman of the Motorsport Commission, culminating in the creation of the sport’s first ever strategic plan. Cecil’s approach to his various roles, including his involvement with the Motor Enthusiasts Club, was never less than 100% and for this alone we all have much to be grateful for. To Cecil’s children, Fiona, Nicky and Andrew, we offer our deepest sympathy.
