Scottish Motor Sports launches new website

Scottish Motor Sports, the new strategic body representing the interests of both two- and four-wheel motor sport in Scotland, has launched a new website and social media presence: www.scottishmotorsports.co.uk and www.twitter.com/SMS_Scotland.
SMS was formed as a result of a project started with sportscotland by the relevant governing bodies, the Motor Sports Association (MSA) and the Scottish Auto Cycle Union (SACU) in 2011. The group aims to raise awareness of the extraordinary impact that Scotland has had on the history of motor sport and to build on that heritage to establish future success. It provides a single channel for the sport to communicate with the Scottish Government and its associated agencies, such as sportscotland, Event Scotland and Visit Scotland.
As well as the two governing bodies, SMS comprises representatives of car and motorcycle sport, including the Scottish Association of Car Clubs (SACC), the Association of Scottish Kart Clubs (ASKC) and Knockhill circuit. It is chaired by Tom Purves, former Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce who is now Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club and an MSA Board Director.
“I was delighted to be asked to chair the group,” said Purves. “We have a great team of people around the table, but the real power of SMS comes from the strength of motor sport in Scotland and the people that make it happen. Our challenge is to represent the collective interests of motor sport and motorcycle sport to those at the highest level and the first step is to gain recognition as a sport of National Performance Significance to Scotland.
“The launch of the website and Twitter account will keep people up to date with what we are doing and how things are progressing. I am sure that the Scottish motor sport community will share our ambitions to ensure that the entire sport, including clubs and competitors, benefits from being part of a government-supported initiative to create higher quality venues, better competition opportunities and stronger career development possibilities for Scottish competitors, marshals and associated individuals, all the way from the grass-roots to international level.”
