Fallon does the double

David Fallon, the Athenry garage owner won the Midland Motor Club Autocross on both saturday and sunday by the narrowest of margins from James lucey both driving specials.The weather was key to the success of this event and luckily for all involved the week leading up to the event was very dry and meant the field held up very well for the two days racing. On Saturday 24 competitors took part and a bigger entry of 31 on sunday spanning from cork to club members from beside the field in Tulsk. David Fallon won by just .2 of a second from James Lucey. The two had a super battle with david coming out on top on both days. David had more time to spare on sunday taking the win by 1.2 seconds, with Benny Kennedy a close 3rd on both days. 8 club members took part with longford man Nigel Mc Cloughery was the closest to the top of the field in a special who finished 6th overall on both days, a very good consistent drive from the local and the first placed club member on both days. Ger Brennan was the first saloon car home on the two days in his cosworth powered mark 1 fiesta a rare machine and he is currently first in the saloon category in the D&B Autocross Championship. The next club member home was Aidan Prior taking the win in class 3A on both days. Mick Shaw the Skoda dealer had a great run on sunday taking the win in class 2A and a superb 10th overall. Cillian Lenehan local lad taking part in the junior class 5A and finished 17th overall and 2nd in class 5A on Saturday, but found his pace on sunday finishing 12th overall and taking the win in class 5A from Johnathan caroll who took the class win on saturday. Bryan Mc Cormack finished 2nd and 3rd rerspectively in the tough class 5B. The Corr brothers had a good run on both days in their nova in class 5B. Lanesboro girl Niamh Scally on her first day out had a good run finishing 22nd overall and 2nd midland motor club member, and on Sunday Niamh finished a credible 23rd overall and done one better in finishing 1rst midland motor club member. Darragh Kelly took part in the autocross for his first ever event and had a great run in the civic finishing 2nd midland motor club member on Sunday. Aisling Halligan went on to win class 1 on Sunday in the hired works Faughnan civic. Longford lad Raymond Shaw had a great battle in the junior class and finishing well in the junior class on both days. Clerk of the course Gerry Kelly would like to thank the Higgins Family for providing the field again this year and all the marshalls and anybody who helped out in the sucessful running of the autocross. Midland Auto Cross is GO!

Midland Motor Club is delighted to announce their two day Autocross event this Weekend the 11th and 12th of August on the farm of Bernie and Joan Higgins Tulsk Co. Roscommon weather permitting.
This is Round 4 of the Midland Motor Club Clubman Championship sponsored by Johnston Toy town Longford. This event is counting Rounds of the National Autocross Championship supported again by main sponsors D & B Windows New Ross Co. Wexford.
The event will bring competitors from all over the country to Tulsk to compete in this fantastic event, spectators can expect to see local and national competitors battle it out over the grass surface course using their skills in car control against the clock negotiating around the course. The track has been specially designed to suit the field layout and will be marked out by Midland Motor Club officials on Saturday morning.
The track will be marked with flags and arrows where competitors will compete individually “against the clock” with one practice run and three timed runs. The best time will Count. A penalty of 5 seconds will be incurred for striking or passing on the wrong side of a standing Red marker flag.This year’s event the return of the Midget Cars taking part in the event on Sunday. This promises to be very exciting because Midget Car Racing is a form of racing involving cars of smaller dimensions than normal. In this part of the event the Midget Cars will race against each other on the track as opposed to the other Autocross cars that race against the clock.

Midland Motor Club(MMC) officials for this event are Gerry Kelly, Clerk of the Course, Joe Lenehan, Assistant Clerk of the Course, John Mc Corry, MMC Steward, Event Secretary Karen Kelly, Scrutiny Frank Clancy and Motorsport Ireland Steward John Duffy. As always marshals are required and anyone interested in helping out please contact the club officials above for details and training.

Thank you to the Tulsk Inn for their support and also the land owners Bernie and Joan Higgins Ballybeg, Tulsk where the field event will take place. Time table for Saturday 11th: Check in & Scrutiny 12.00pm. First car timed run: 3:00pm. Saturday night: Prize giving and refreshments in the Tulsk Inn, with music to follow by “Acting the Maggot” and also a charity auction to take place on the night in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital, and also a guest appearance by the “STIG” Who is he??? Time table for Sunday 12th: Check in 09:00am. First timed run: 11:00am followed by prize giving, light refreshments in the Tulsk Inn Sunday evening, music on the evening.
