Rally New York, Ltd. has invoked Article 3.12 of the event Supplementary Regulations and cancelled Rally Delaware 2012 scheduled for August 24 – 25. This action has been taken because an insufficient number of entries has been received by August 1.

Rally Delaware was planned as a two-day tarmac rally with 104 miles of special stages and a total length of 320 miles. The rally was to be conducted according to the international regulations with full reconnaissance of the rally route and pace notes. All these features taken together make this rally unique in the United States.

Rally New York, Ltd. wants to thank the teams on the entry list as well as all sponsors and supporters. This includes but is not limited to Town of Walton, Walton Chamber of Commerce, Walton Fire Department and a number of local businesses. Volunteers and senior staff of the rally deserve special thanks for their dedicated efforts in preparing Rally Delaware, which was to be the 39th Rally New York event in eleven seasons. It is in the best interest of all these entities that we make this announcement today rather than on August 10 specified in Article 3.12 of the Supplementary Regulations.

Under the circumstances, Rally New York, Ltd. intends not to spend additional time and money in further planning and preparation of the gravel International Rally New York 2012 scheduled for October 20 – 21.

Consequently, the next event of the United States Rally Championship (USRC) is Gorman Ridge Rally in California on August 25, 2012. The final round of the 2012 United States Rally Championship will be Prescott Rally in Arizona on September 28 – 29.

Entry is open for Rally Delaware scheduled for August 24 - 25, 2012. Rally Delaware, a two-day tarmac rally, is unique in that it is one of the only two National Championship events in North America that are run entirely on tarmac roads.

Discounted early entry ends on August 1. Regular entry will close on August 10. Late entries will close on August 24. Rally program, online entry, entry forms, itinerary, supplementary regulations, reconnaissance schedule, course maps, spectator maps and a printable poster are available at www.RallyNewYork.net/rdel2012.html.

The Rally Delaware is a round of the 2012 United States Rally Championship. Each half of the rally is a separate round of the New York Rally Championship ' Thunder 102 Cup sponsored by Tearoff Guys and presented by Thunder 102 Rally Radio. Teams will also be competing for points in the newly introduced tarmac championship, rear-wheel-drive championship and the category for hillclimb cars.

All teams from the Pacific Division of the United States Rally Championship, regardless of their standing in the Division, will receive free entry.

A prize fund guarantees that each team in top 30 percent of all finishers, including at least one production car and one two-wheel-drive car, will be awarded prize money.

Robert Cella, a retired engineer and a radio operator at Rally New York events for many years, will again sponsor three selected teams. Teams should submit their requests for sponsorship to rally registrar after submitting their entry. This is the tenth Rally New York event in a row when competitors become beneficiaries of Mr. Cella's awe-inspiring generosity.

The Rally takes place both days entirely within the borders of the Town of Walton in Delaware County of New York utilizing all the special stages that were used in various years in the past. Chicanes / retarders will be used to slow down rally cars on a few longer straights.

The compact schedule calls for registration, scrutineering and reconnaissance on Thursday afternoon and on Friday morning. The headquarters is at Walton Fire Hall. Reconnaissance is free and the number of passes is not restricted. The rally will start with a Ceremonial Start at Delaware County Fairgrounds on Friday afternoon and will end there on Saturday night with champagne-spraying ceremony for the winners. There will be an overnight Parc Ferme on Friday night.

The event consists of 104 miles of (racing) special stages with a total length of 320 miles. The rally takes place in spectacular southern Catskill Mountains of New York some 100 miles northwest of New York City. It is conducted according to the international FIA regulations with reconnaissance and pace notes.

The United States Rally Championship is taking bold steps to make national competition more affordable and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. This is the eighth season of the new Championship structure that minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated cross-country travel during the Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country. The final round of the Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the Pacific Division and together with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the National Championship.
