On Sept 10th Opel cars of all different ages assembled at Kevin O’Leary’s Opel Dealer in Bandon. It was the first Open Day they have held in conjunction with the Opel Owners Club of Ireland. This partnership had begun earlier in the year when the Kevin O’Leary Group co-sponsored the fourth Annual “Ted’s TotalOpel Run” in which eighty four cars from all over the thirty two counties took part. Some of those cars returned to the Open Day which was a major success, so much so that the parties involved have vowed to make it an Annual event.

One of the star attractions of the day was the new Opel Insignia OPC which made its debut in the Dealer’s Showrooms in Kevin O’Leary’s. A stunning car no doubt, and the owners of such classics as the Opel Manta were comparing how the styling and technology has changed so vastly in the past forty years. One man from Sligo, brought his immaculate Manta B, there was an Astra Olympic from Galway, (a special edition for the 1996 Olympic Games). We had a Kadett GTE from Tipperary with “Irmscher” styling and a now rare Kadett E Van from Killorglin, Co. Kerry. A Kadett City owned by Denis Murphy from Macroom got “Pride of Place” by being placed in the Showroom with the new cars. There were many more Corsa’s, Kadett’s, Manta’s, Ascona’s and a few Vauxhall’s. There were also a few Rally cars there just to show that Opel are still competitive in the Rallying circles.

From the Opel Owners Club of Ireland it is a great honour to be associated with an Open Day by a Dealer and the Club wish to thank the Kevin O’Leary Group for all their help, hospitality and support and look forward to working closely with them in the future. We would also like to thank the Kevin O’Leary Group and Opel for all the tokens and prizes which were awarded on the day.

It was an enjoyable event from start to finish and will be definitely be one to put in the diary for next year. We will be hoping to have a bigger and better display next year so if you want to contact the Opel Owners Club of Ireland call on 086 3256751 or 087 6185749.
