URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE CLERK OF THE COURSE
Posted: September 29, 2010 9:19 PM
29th September, 2010
"I wish to clarify that the Garda Siochana Motor Club's forthcoming event is a Mini Stages Rally with the format of two stages run twice, and a total stage distance of 80 kilometres. Permission has been sought from Motorsport Ireland to run an extra two stages, and as this would require a rule change by the Motor Sport Commission, no decision has been made on the request as yet.
To date, sixteen entries have been received for this event, and in order for the rally to proceed I request that any competitor intending to take part in the event forwards the entry form by the closing date, next Monday, 4th October, 2010, as a decision will have to made on that date whether or not to run the event.
As COC, I am calling on competitors to support the Germaine's of Baltinglass GSMC Mini Stages Rally on what will be its Tenth Anniversary.
The ethos of the event, and that of Garda Siochana Motor Club, has traditionally been geared towards clubman competitors, who have in turn supported us greatly over the years, and I hope this support will continue for many years to come."
Pat Lordan
Clerk of the Course

The Garda Siochana Motor Club's Mini Stages Rally celebrates its Tenth Anniversary in 2010, and the organisers of the Baltinglass - based event have planned a number of innovations to mark the occasion, including an expanded route and additional awards. Other facets of the Rally will remain unchanged, with Germaine's of Baltinglass providing the venue for Event Headquarters, while the roads of Co. Wicklow will again provide the arena for the competitive element.
As the first year of the new Millenium drew to a close, the GSMC held its first Single Stage Rally, based in Courtown, Co. Wexford. The event then moved to Baltinglass, where it has remained ever since, and the club and the rally are now firmly associated with Germaine's Hotel, which has provided an excellent headquarters venue. 2005 saw the rally expand from a Single Stage format to a Mini Stages event, and now, ten years after its inception, the Garda Siochana Motor Club has further plans to progress the event, having gained the approval of Motorsport Ireland to run an additional (third) loop of stages, making the Baltinglass Rally the first ever Mini Stages to consist of six tests rather than the traditional four.
The Clerk of the Course for the first GSMC Rally was Pat Lordan, and he returns to the helm for 2010, having held various other roles within the organisation in recent years.
"I'm hoping that as many of the previous winners as possible will take part in the 2010 Rally, given that this is our Tenth Anniversary", he said. "I'm also optimistic that the 50% extra stage mileage will prove popular with competitors, especially since we have held the Entry Fee at the same price as before."
For the record, the previous winners of the Garda Siochana Motor Club Rally are as follows:
2009 Daniel Barry/Martin Brady Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9
2008 Kevin Kelleher/Martin Brady Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9
2007 Kevin Kelleher/Martin Kelleher Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9
2006 James Foley/Dominic Markey Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9
2005 Donal O'Donovan/John O'Rahilly Toyota Celica GT-Four
2004 James M Stafford/James F Stafford Vauxhall Nova
2003 Michael Reddy/John Brophy Ford Escort RS
2002 Michael Reddy/John Brophy Ford Escort RS
2001 No Rally - Foot & Mouth Disease
2000 Terence Teggart/Bob Kelly Ford Escort RS
The GSMC Germaines of Baltinglass Mini Stages Rally is the final round of the 2010 Loughran Signs Midlands East Rally Championship. The class-based classification of the clubman-orientated series sees Stephen Cullen at the head of the standings going into the Baltinglass finale. Such has been his dominance of the top Group N class so far this year, the Subaru Impreza driver is virtually assurred of the 2010 Midlands East title once he starts the GSMC Rally.
