It is with great pleasure that Cirencester Car Club announce their return to stage rallying. Cirencester Car Club have a good history of running quality events dating back to the 1970’s when Lord Bathurst invited the Club to run stage rallies in the Cirencester Park. Known as the Arkell Rally having taking its name form the event sponsor, Arkells Brewery and formed part of the National Championship. These events were a great success with the top national drivers competing. This was followed by the RAC asking the Club to organise a major stage on the International RAC Rally.

In the Eighties the club ran two events a year at Down Ampney. The venue was moved to RAF Kemble, where it remained until it was sold into private ownership.

The Corinium Stages will be held at Down Ampney airfield, just a few miles away from Cirencester. It is a very popular venue and a third event running here will complement the investment made by Cheltenham Motor Club and Enthusiasts Motor Club Of Stonehouse in keeping the surfaces repaired. The ‘Get it Sideways Stage Rally’ and ‘EMCOS Stages’ both usually fill their entry lists very quickly. It is also regularly used by Andy Gwynne’s Rally School.

For those of you who have already competed at Down Ampney you will know the venue well, but for those who are yet to be tempted…

Although it is an Airfield, it is far from perfectly flat and smooth as we have become accustomed to on so many of today’s Multi Use Stage Rallies. The surface consists of some smooth concrete, some not so smooth and some broken loose concrete. Coupled with the water splash and wooded areas surrounding the stages it makes for some interesting driving! Very often tyre choice on the earlier stages making all the difference to the overall results, so you might want to bring some old gravel tyres with you?

Access to the venue is easy and flat with plenty of room in the service area. Unfortunately no spectators are permitted but marshals are definitely welcome. There are safe areas for the service crews to watch their drivers and navigators performance.
