Greystoke Stage 2010 Cancelled

Posted: June 1, 2010 9:16 AM

West Cumbria Motorsport Club must regrettably confirm that the 2010 Greystoke Stages Rally is cancelled.

This is obviously a great disappointment to us however the number of entries received has not achieved the minimum required to make the event financially viable. This is despite the Club being prepared to provide an additional subsidy to the event to try and ensure that it ran.

GREYSTOKE STAGES RALLY 2010 - NEW RELEASE 2

Posted: March 23, 2010 10:56 AM

Three great new items of news for the 2010 Greystoke Stages Rally to be run in Greystoke Forest, Cumbria on the 25th July 2010.

The organisers of the event have secured a second and major sponsor in the form of Stan Palmer Ltd., the Ford dealers located at Bolton Low Houses, near Wigton in Cumbria and with a Subaru dealership in Carlisle and Honda dealership in Cockermouth. Having agreed to support the rally Stan said '' We are delighted to support this event to enable the grass roots rally crews the opportunity to compete on some of the best forest stages in the area ''. The rally will now be known as the Stan Palmer Greystoke Stages Rally.

So now with Stan Palmers backing the rally and continuing support from P & R Benn the organising team are planning on an exciting incentive to attract crews along for a fantastic days motorsport. If the entry list tops 55 cars then a draw will be held before the start of the rally and all crews who have passed scrutineering and signed on will be entered in this draw. The winning car number 'out of the hat' will have their entry fee refunded in full. A superb days special stage rallying with no entry costs, now that has got to be worth having a go for! Should entry list fill up completely, 70 cars, then two winning numbers will be drawn with a second crew getting a free run for the day.

The third item of news is that the updated and improved Greystoke Stages Rally website is now up and running and available for all to see on-line. Just go to www.greystokestages.co.uk to get right up to date. The site is being added to week by week and there will be plenty to keep everyone's attention including some super action photos. Entries are expected to be at a premium so visit the website soon and enter on-line without delay.

As always on an event like this plenty of marshals will be needed so if you feel like helping out on the day contact Irving Wilson, the Chief Marshal, via the website.

July 25th 2010 will see the third running of the Greystoke Stages Rally in Greystoke Forest in Cumbria. One of the few forest single venue events in the North of England ,possibly the only one in the North West of England, the rally will again have support from P & R Benn of Cockermouth and be run in the M-Sport owned Greystoke Forest near Penrith, just off Junction 40 of the M6.

This years rally will be part of the Association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs (ANECC) Stage Rally Championship and also again be included in the Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Clubs Stage Rally Championship. Making an entry for the first time the event will be a round of the Association of Northern Car Clubs (ANCC) Stage Rally Championship. It is also on the reserve list of the Association of North Western Car Clubs (ANWCC) Forest Rally Championship hoping to be included in 2011.

The organising team from the West Cumbria Motorsport Club, made up from most of the previous two years successful organising teams, are looking at providing 32 miles of the very best forest stages with a maximum entry of 70 cars. The increased number of entries being possible with the enlargement of the central service area. At the end of 2009 the M-Sport owned Greystoke venue came in for high praise from Colin Heppenstall, who having done the route survey for the Roger Albert Clark Rally said of Greystoke
"...the best prepared forest stage I have ever seen in my life"
was Colin's verdict with its smooth surface and the fact that trees have been removed to a distance of ten metres from the track to provide clearer sight lines during testing we can expect some fast times here.

The 2010 website, will be up and running soon with regular updates and information available this way
