Posted: October 21, 2009 12:59 PM
This weekend’s Rally of Great Britain has attracted some of the top names in entertainment to the brand new, free-to-enter Service Park in Cardiff Bay. Harry Potter fans will be delighted to hear that Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the films, will make an appearance and the spectacular Red Bull Matadors – the world famous flying display team - will be there to wow fans. Rally GB starts on Thursday 22 and runs until Sunday 25 October.
Rupert Grint will be dropping into the Rally GB Service Park this Sunday (25 October). Rupert, 21, is a huge fan of rallying and will no doubt be hoping to catch the crowning of the World Rally Champion at the ceremonial finish in the afternoon. Fans and media who want to catch a glimpse of the star should make sure they are in the manufacturer’s area of the Service Park, in Cardiff Bay at 2.15pm.
Also zooming into view will be the award-winning Red Bull Matadors – the world famous flying display team who will be filling the skies above the Service Park on Saturday at 2:30pm. The dynamic team features two of Britain’s best pilots – Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones – and the duo have scooped numerous awards for their highly-skilled, yet daring routines.
“This year’s Rally GB Service Park is set to provide incredible access to all the action of the rally, as well as one of the best line-ups of entertainment we’ve ever been able to offer, all for no cost to fans,” explained Andrew Coe, chief executive of event organiser, International Motor Sports Ltd.

2009 Rally of Great Britain Officially Launched
Posted: July 24, 2009 5:47 PM
The 2009 Rally of Great Britain, one of the UK's biggest motorsport events, popular for its high octane action set in the infamously unforgiving Welsh forests, has now been launched.
The event, which takes place from 22 - 25 October, is the final round of the World Rally Championship and could see the making of this year's Champion. This year, for the first time, the Service Park will be in the Welsh capital, in Cardiff Bay. Free of charge to enter, it will give everyone a chance to get up close to the action.
Tickets are now on sale, with last year's popular 'kids for a quid' offer extended to include more of the event than ever before, making it a perfect family activity. Once again, all ticket prices remain low, starting from just £1 for child day passes. A World Rally Pass (WRP) represents the best value for money, for adults wanting to soak up all the action. The pass will give access to all stages and car parks and shakedown. Organisers have worked hard to keep prices low and at £90 the WRP remains the same price it has been for the past five years - a rare phenomenon in the sporting world.
Also available is a huge range of hospitality packages at extremely competitive prices, designed to suit small or large businesses and rally fans alike. Each package is designed to bring guests closer to the action in exclusive surroundings. Bespoke packages can also be created to include almost anything from hotels to helicopter rides, making the Rally of Great Britain experience truly unique.
This year's event will have a new twist, with Rally HQ and the Service Park based entirely in Cardiff, making it extremely convenient for fans wanting to experience all the action. The Service Park, which will be based in Cardiff Bay, can be reached easily from the city centre by bus, foot or train. Entry to the Service Park is free and will give visitors the chance to meet the teams and experience the full rally atmosphere. Visitors can also enjoy the entertainment and catering available at the Service Park, which is itself surrounded by some of Cardiff's best bars and restaurants.
An added bonus this year will be the return of the Remote Service Park in Builth Wells. Set in the midst of the Mid Wales stages, it will give fans the chance to experience a service park right at the heart of the rally and really see what goes on behind the scenes. It will be an absolute must see for serious rally fans and is an added bonus for World Rally Pass holders.
To take advantage of the best ticket prices advance booking is essential. Details of how to purchase tickets together with other important news is available by visiting
MSA confirms 2009 Rally of Great Britain
Posted: June 10, 2009 4:20 PM
The Motor Sports Association, governing body of UK motor sport, has today confirmed its commitment to the UK's round of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship by agreeing to underwrite the cost of running the 2009 Rally of Great Britain that will be held in Wales from October 22nd to 25th.
The MSA has agreed this course of action, in spite of the Welsh Assembly Government's (WAG) recent unilateral and unwarranted decision to terminate its sponsorship contract for the event. The MSA's commercial subsidiary, International Motor Sports which organises the event, will continue to pursue vigorously its legal case against the Welsh Assembly.
"In recent years, the MSA has exercised prudent management of its finances to create a surplus in order to protect the sport against unforeseen circumstances," confirms Alan Gow, Chairman of both MSA and IMS. "Consequently, we have decided to underwrite this important and prestigious international event for the good of the sport, while continuing to pursue our extremely robust case against the Welsh Assembly Government for its breach of contract.
"IMS and everyone involved in Rally GB now have a very challenging period ahead to turn the event around in just four months. However, we are confident that the experience and professionalism of our people and clubs will make sure that this year's event is a great success."
