"Bones" O' Conor / Paul Phelan scored their third straight win in the RIAC National Navigation Championship on last weekends Cork MC "1000 Shakes" rally. The win, helped in no small way by the retirement of early leaders Pat Willoughby / Vincent Fagan whose Opel Kadett developed electrical problems, has moved the former Champions into third spot in the Championship standings with just three rounds remaining. The night saw a host of penalties as crews tried to come to terms with some very tricky navigation and "plot & bash".

Michael O'Conor / Paul Phelan (Toyota Corrolla) managed a clean sheet on Saturdays "Heartbreak" Rally despite the arctic conditions. Air temperatures dipped to -5C and provided competitors with hazardous conditions including black ice and frost. However the former National Champions set a steady pace throughout to emerge worthy winners.

As tradition dictates the season opened with the Co Monaghan MC Drumlin. Victory once again went to Andy Mackarel / Liam Higgins (Ascona) on 58 minutes just 8 minutes ahead of Fintan McGorman / Sandy Mills. The Nova crew were left to rue not skipping TP 4 3 when lateness and a wrong approach cost them 29 minutes!! Third spot went to Pakie Duffy / Harry Bleakley (Golf GTi) on 69 minutes.
