Kris Meeke/Noel O'Sullivan enter Carlisle Stages

Posted: October 14, 2023 5:21 PM

Kris Meeke will contest the Carlisle Stages on 20/21 October as part of his build up for the Roger Albert Clark Rally in late November.

The former WRC ace will drive a Ford Escort Mk2 from Wales Motorsport on the Carlisle event in preparation for tackling the five-day marathon.

It will be a great opportunity for Meeke to get some competitive miles under his belt in the Escort and get a feel for the type of stages that will feature on the Sunday and Monday legs of the Roger Albert Clark. Meeke will also get the chance to drive the car competitively in the dark as the event opens with two stages in Kielder forest on Friday evening.

Meeke joins a fine entry for the Carlisle Stages, which is the final round of both the Fuchs British Historic Rally Championship and the SRC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship. Both championships will be decided on the event and the response to the Carlisle Stages has been superb with an entry of 95 cars to date and more expected.

Meeke will be part of a top quality historic entry that includes fellow Roger Albert Clark contenders Martin McCormack, Jason Pritchard, Matthew Robinson, Richard Tuthill, Roger Chilman and Steve Bannister.

In the four-wheel drive element, newly crowned BTRDA champion Elliot Payne will go up against Scottish championship contenders David Henderson and Jock Armstrong.

The organisers from the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club have also put out a request for some more marshals to help the event run safely. And volunteers should e-mail carlislerally@gmail.com

Extended route planned for Carlisle Stages

Posted: October 14, 2023 5:16 PM

This year’s Carlisle Stages will feature 55 competitive miles with an opening leg in the darkness of Friday evening (October 20) and a full day with a further 45 stage miles on Saturday, October 21.

The event, run by Nicola Heppenstall and the team at the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club, will be the final round of both the Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Championship and the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship. The rally will be based at H and H Auctions, just off junction 43 of the M6 at Carlisle.

With 10 stage miles on Friday evening after a 6:30pm start and a further 45 miles on Saturday, the event offers excellent value for money for an entry fee of £795. It offers an ideal opportunity for competitors to tackle some Kielder stages in the darkness ahead of the Roger Albert Clark rally in November.

As well as being the deciding round of two major national championships, the Carlisle Stages will also be a round of the SG Petch Association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs Stage Rally Championship.

Heppenstall said: “The stages are all in excellent condition and 10 miles of route will only be used once. Riccarton and Hyndlee have both been regraded since the Border Counties Rally in May and some of the Kershope stage has not been used for at least six years.”

On Friday evening, competitors will tackle two stages in Florida and Kershope before returning to H and H Auctions for the overnight halt. Saturday will feature six stages in Kershope, Riccarton, Buck Fell and Hyndlee, with service at Kielder Greenside. The finish will then be at Kielder Castle on Saturday afternoon.
