Wexford Motor Club are delighted to announce our special Guest Driver for the 50th Anniversary Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally 2022.

Finnish WRC Legend Mikko Hirvonen is coming back to Irish shores in the RLA Autosport run 2.5 Ford Escort Mk2. Mikko loved his time in Ireland at the 2019 West Cork Rally, winning the National section of the event so where better to return to than the 2022 Wexford Stages Rally. With 18 stages over 230km, fans and spectators will have plenty of opportunity to see Mikko push the 2.5 Escort to its limits again.

Wexford Motor Club are delighted to announce details of the 2022 Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally. After a COVID enforced change of date and format in 2021, the club is excited to announce a return to the 2-day Rally on the traditional weekend of 10th and 11th September for its 50th anniversary. Wexford Volkswagen return as title sponsor. Entries open at 10am on Monday 1st August 2022.

The Rally will be based out of the Riverbank House Hotel in Wexford Town, with Mark Cooper taking over the key role of COC. After a ceremonial start in Wexford Town Centre on Friday evening, all eyes move to the Ballycullane/Saltmills/New Ross area on Saturday for 3 stages repeated 3 times. On Sunday, the action moves to the Ferns/Blackwater/Crossabeg for another action packed 9 stages. All stages were picked by current competitors with the aim of providing the best driving experience possible for crews making the trip to the sunny southeast.

The club recognises that running 18 stages over 230km is a massive undertaking in the current climate but are committed to offering the best value of the year to all competitors and the best possible spectacle for spectators. The entry fee has been set at €1,150 for the main field and historic entries representing the best €/km entry fee of the year, a nod to our clubman heritage. Junior crews will tackle 9 stages on Sunday for an entry fee of €650. If both crew members marshal on Saturday, this is reduced to €550, again aiming to provide the best value possible.

To ensure adequate help is available in the build up to the event and the weekend itself, the club are running several new initiatives. Competing club members have stepped up to the plate to help with running the event with no less than 48 people involved in the first PR of the stages over the past 3 weeks. A marshals draw fund has been developed with over €3,000 in prizes already pledged. Full details of this draw will be announced over the coming weeks. All crews entering who provide a marshal for the 2 days of the event (or 2 marshals for 1 day) will get guaranteed priority entry, leaving any crews who do so, safe in the knowledge that they will get an entry and not be placed on the reserve list. Full details will be announced in the regulations.

As always, Wexford Motor Club are very grateful to all parties who help organise, assist and facilitate the event every year and look forward to welcoming everyone to Wexford in September for a fantastic weekend of Motorsport!
