National Autocross Championships Launched

After a two year sabbatical due to the pandemic, the long awaited National Loose Surface and Grass Surface Autocross Championships are being planned.
There is lots of change taking place this year, most notably a new sponsor for each Championship. A new J1000 Class in the Loose Surface Autocross Championship will also take place.
The 2022 Loose Surface Autocross Championship will consist of 8 rounds and the 2022 Grass Surface Autocross Championship will consist of 7 rounds.
The 2022 Motorsport Ireland Autocross Commission, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Brian Keegan, is delighted to welcome CKH Environmental on board as sponsor for the National Loose Surface Autocross Championship. Managing Director of CKH Environmental, Mr. Colman Hegarty, is very well known countrywide in Motorsport circles as a Clerk of the Course for many years of the Cork20 Rally, Safety Officer and Motorsport Ireland Steward. Coleman also acts as Chairman for the TROA Rally Championship. CKH Environmental are agents for the full range of Klargester pollution control products including forecourt interceptors and wash down separators. They also provide a monitoring service for all types of interceptors. CKH Environmental has a wide range of oil spill remediation products and wash detergents and do a nationwide delivery service. In 2022 the National Loose Surface Autocross will be known as ‘CKH Environmental National Loose Surface Autocross Championship’.
Colman Hegarty said at the launch
“I am delighted to get the opportunity to be title Sponsor of the 2022 National Loose Surface Championship. It is fantastic to be part of getting the Championship up and running after a two year layoff. I am really looking forward to a great year of competition at the various rounds throughout the Country. I am delighted to see the new J1000 Class in the Championship for 2022. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Competitors and Organisers a safe and enjoyable season of loose surface competition”. CKH Environmental National Loose Surface Autocross Championship is an 8 round Championship. The Championship kicks off on March 27th with Round 1 hosted by Limerick Motor Club followed on April 17, Easter Sunday, by Clare Motor Club. Munster Car Club, of which title sponsor Colman Hegarty is a member of, will take place on May 29th. Midland Motor Club will host round 4 on June 26th followed by round 5 on July 10th hosted by Cork Motor Club. Round 6 on July 24th is being organised by Garda Siochana Club. Round 7 sees the Championship move to West Cork for the Skibbereen Autocross. The final round of the Championship will be organised by Birr Motor Club on November 20th. There will be a reserve round to the Championship on October 10th, which will be run by Clare Motor Club.
The Chairman of Motorsport Ireland Autocross Commission then welcomed Managing Director Mr. Gerry Kelly from Shannon Trophies, based in Corofin, Co Clare, on board as new sponsor for the National Grass Surface Championship for 2022. Brian emphasised how fortunate Motorsport and in this case Autocross, were, to have sponsors come on board at a time when businesses were after being hit for the past couple of years by the pandemic. Brian said he hopes both Companies will get support from the Motorsport fraternity in recognition of their endeavours.
Shannon Trophies offer a wide range of trophies, glass awards and figures. Gerry is no stranger to Motorsport and has been supplying Motor Clubs with awards since he took over his enterprise in 2006. Gerry supplies trophies, medals and awards to all sporting disciplines including Motorsport. Shannon Trophies also supply awards for schools and dance competitions. At the launch Gerry, Managing Director of Shannon Trophies, said he was delighted to be able to come on board as sponsor for the National Grass Surface Championship for 2022. He said it was great to see the sport up and running again after the layoff and he wished all Competitors safe and enjoyable motoring.
The National Grass Surface Autocross Championship will be known as Shannon Trophies National Grass Surface Autocross Championship. This year’s Championship will be a 7 round Championship. Round 1 takes place on May 15th and hosted by Garda Motor Club, in the Naul Co. Dublin. This will be followed three weeks later on June 5th hosted by Carrick on Suir Motor Club. In July there will be two rounds, Galway hosting the first on July 3rd and two weeks later neighbouring club Clare hosting their round on 17th July. Midland Motor club will host round 5 on August 14th. The penultimate round will be hosted by Birr Motor Club on September 4th. The final round of the Championship will be held in East Cork and hosted by Imokilly Motor Club on September 18th.
The new President of Motorsport Ireland, Mr Aidan Harper, attended the launch for the both Championships and said
“the news of two great sponsors coming on board for the Autocross Championships is very welcomed. CKH Environmental coming on board for the Loose Surface and Shannon Trophies for the Grass Surface. Both have been great suppliers to the Motorsport family over the years and having them onboard as sponsors for 2022 will enrich the sustainability of Autocross” Aidan went on to thank both sponsors for their generous sponsorship.
