The Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Championship has today [8 December] unveiled its 2022 calendar with a new-look for the upcoming season.
The BHRC, sponsored by fluid giants Fuchs Lubricants for the fifth consecutive year will see a shift to an all-gravel season with seven high quality forest events on offer, tackling some of the best loose surface stages in the country.
As well as the hotly contested BHRC title fight, championship contenders are well catered for with classes available for all historic specification machines registered from 1968 to 1985 and Category One to FIA Appendix K examples.
New for 2022, the season will kick off in February with the Riponian Stages Rally, utilising classic tests in the Yorkshire forests. Crews will then return to the more familiar Rally North Wales in March which offers world-class stages such as Gartheiniog and Dyfi.
Another new addition to the roster is the Plains Rally in May. Also set to use classic Welsh stages, the schedule will see Wales Rally GB favourites being used to test the BHRC contenders to the maximum. The Red Kite Stages is a popular return to the calendar with the fast and flowing South Wales stages set to test all championship protagonists in June.
The Woodpecker Stages Rally makes its first appearance in the BHRC after previously being part of the mixed surface Rally2 offering. Infamous stages such as Radnor form the backbone of the event and is traditionally one of the most popular events in the UK rallying calendar and takes place at the beginning of September.
Another favourite returns later that month, with Trackrod Rally Yorkshire offering the first foray into the darkness with competitive mileage on Friday night before a full day on Saturday to offer the ultimate gravel test.
The Carlisle Stages hosts the final round of the championship in October with stages both sides of the Scottish Borders and the Kielder Forest complex to round out the year.
Five scores will count from the seven rounds and British Historic Rally Championship Manager Colin Heppenstall is excited by the new look to the championship in 2022.
“The British Historic Rally Championship has always provided a fantastic season of action and close competition on some of the best events in the UK,” he says.
“After a somewhat shortened 2021 season, a shift to an all-gravel calendar offers a shake up to the championship next year but we have been careful to select high quality events with some of the best stages in the UK. We are excited to watch the season unfold and would like to extend our thanks to Fuchs Lubricants for their unrivalled support”.
