The 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally (25-29 November) will have extensive media coverage, with considerable emphasis placed on live broadcasts to capture the action, drama and unique atmosphere of this epic rally.

For anyone following the rally, whether it is from the forests and service areas or from the armchair at home, as it covers England, Scotland and Wales there are lots of ways to keep up with the rally over five days of flat-out competition.

As in 2019, Matt Cotton will be reporting live via the event’s Facebook page from a range of locations, including stage starts, stage finishes, controls and service areas. In addition to Matt’s live reporting, the Facebook page will be updated throughout the event with news, stories, images and anything else that is relevant. In addition, there will be a live studio-style TV review programme at the end of each day, the ‘R.A.C. Rally Report’, taking in action footage from that day’s stages filmed and edited by the team at Special Stage. It is expected that the Facebook broadcast will start at around 8pm each evening.

Rally manager Colin Heppenstall said:
“The live Facebook coverage takes the event across the world and allows everyone to keep up to date. We want to take that to an even wider audience this time around. The level of interest in the build up to the rally has been unprecedented.”

In 2019 the live coverage over the five days spanned 23 broadcast sessions and a total of 14 hours 38 minutes. The largest number of views was of the Sunday morning transmission which had a reach of 41,460 and 25,000 views during the 72-minute transmission. Meanwhile, the Facebook live TV programme reached 100,370 people and was viewed by 52,200 people.

During the week of the 2019 event, the rally’s Facebook page had 442,800 engagements with 75,300 page views. The page now has more than 19,250 followers.

The comprehensive event results system run by Tynemouth Computers is one of the best rally results systems in Europe and will carry as near-live information as is possible considering the terrain covered by the rally. The results system will show the current leader board, times for a stage or stages, reasons for retirement and much more.

More route details for 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally

More route information for the 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally (25-29 November) has been confirmed as organisation pushes ahead for the longest and toughest special stage rally on the UK calendar.

Carlisle has been confirmed as the host city for the event, which will be based at H&H Auctions close to junction 43 of the M6. The rally will be based at H&H until it transfers to Wales on Saturday night. Scrutineering will start at mid-day on Wednesday and continue on Thursday morning.

Rally manager Colin Heppenstall has confirmed an outline route for the opening three days and will soon reveal his route plan for Sunday and Monday in Wales. The total route will take in 350 stage miles.

The rally will start at 3pm on Thursday (25 November) for a loop of five stages in the western end of Kielder covering 42 stage miles into the evening. That’s the equivalent of a BTRDA rally as a warm-up on Thursday!

Friday is a long, challenging day in the central block of Kielder, taking in eight stages and 112 stage miles. Only one stage, the 9.35-mile Pundershaw stage, is under 10 miles long, while the Bewshaugh stage, which is run twice, is a whopping 17.67 miles. The first car will leave Carlisle at 7.30am and return shortly before 9pm.

The pressure is kept up on Saturday with classic stages over the border in Scotland, including Ae, Twiglees and Craik in a route of eight stages and 66 stage miles. On Saturday evening, or Sunday morning, crews will re-locate to Wales for Sunday and Monday and a further 130 stage miles. The re-start on Sunday is provisionally set for 12 noon to allow later runners the option of heading south on Sunday morning. The Welsh route is set to include some classic forest stages as well as one or two stages that have not been used for several years.

Heppenstall said: “It really is business as usual and we are planning ahead for November. We’ll issue further details as more route information becomes available. We plan to open entries in April and will give plenty of notice of the opening date and deposit system. We are getting an unprecedented level of enquiry from prospective competitors for the rally.”

Exactly one year ahead of the start of the rally, the 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally has received an overwhelming response since outline details of the biennial rally were announced.

At 1500hrs on 25 November 2021, the first competitor will leave the start to head into five days of rallying across England, Scotland and Wales and there is every reason to expect very high demand for entries based on the feedback from the last few days.

The event will run from Thursday 25 to Monday 29 November and rally manager Colin Heppenstall is planning to make the 14th edition of the biennial rally at least as tough as the hugely successful 2019 event. Heppenstall is currently working on two separate routes depending on forestry allocations and will not be able to announce final details until early spring. At that point, entries will open for the rally.

“Since we announced outline details of the rally, we’ve been inundated with prospective competitors wanting to place a deposit to secure their place,” said Heppenstall. “However, we will not take any entries until we have confirmed the route and we will give everyone plenty of advance warning before we start accepting entries.”

Heppenstall also says that the response from organisers, marshals and spectators has been hugely positive. “We’ve had enquiries on behalf of one or two notable names, so we’ll just have to see how those plans develop!”

The event regulations will be published with a maximum entry of only 105 cars plus up to 20 foreign crews and a further 10 reserves. Entries will be taken on a first come, first served basis with an initial deposit payment of £1,000. While the main focus of the event is historic rally cars, two-wheel-drive cars of any age also have an important part in the concurrent Open Rally.

Outline details of the 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally have been announced and planning is underway for another epic stage rallying challenge over five days in November.

The event will run from Thursday 25 to Monday 29 November and rally manager Colin Heppenstall is planning to make the 14th edition of the biennial rally at least as tough as the hugely successful 2019 event. A year on from the 2019 rally and a year ahead of the next edition, Heppenstall has two outline routes under development.

“We are currently working on two separate routes depending on forestry allocations,” said Heppenstall. “Unfortunately, we won’t be able to confirm the route until April next year, at the earliest, once conversations can be had with Forest England, Forestry and Land Scotland and National Resources Wales and Rally4Wales.

Option 1 covers 365 stage miles (590km) over five days with an entry fee of £4,500; starting in the north with stages in Kielder, Scotland and Mid Wales and finishing in Leominster.

Option 2 covers 300 stage miles (480km) over five days with an entry fee of £4,000; starting in the north with stages in Kielder, Scotland, Yorkshire and Mid Wales and finishing in Leominster.

“It is fair to say that the 12 months since last year’s rally have been a tough time for rallying. We wanted to underline our commitment to running the Roger Albert Clark Rally as planned in November 2021 and we hope that this will give everyone something to plan for and look forward to, whether they are competitors, marshals or spectators.

“Over the last few weeks, I have had numerous enquiries from around the world about when entries are being opened for the 2021 event, so I think there is going to be high demand for places on the entry list,” added Heppenstall.

“Once we have been able to confirm the details of the event, regulations will be published with a maximum entry of only 105 cars plus up to 20 foreign crews and a further 10 reserves.”
