KRIS MEEKE TO RETURN TO THE WHEEL AT RALLYLEGEND (11-14 OCTOBER)
Posted: September 13, 2018 3:57 AM
Republic of San Marino. A unique opportunity to see Kris Meeke back at the wheel of a rally car. The British driver,
a World Rally star, enthusiastically accepted the invitation to take part in the unique San Marino Rallylegend
event, set to take place from 11 to 14 October. In the coming days, it will be decided whether the English great, who
fell in love with Rallylegend last year, will take part in the race, with a WRC car, or be part of the “Legend Stars” show,
with one of Colin McRae’s former cars of course, the Scotsman a mentor to Meeke in the early days.
Despite his role as factory Citroen WRT driver having come to an abrupt end following the recent Portuguese rally, Kris
Meeke remains a hero in the eyes of rally fans, who appreciate his fast and spectacular driving style. He will no doubt
receive a warm welcome from the crowds during the San Marino specials.
Born in 1979, Kris Meeke made his rallying debut in 2000, with a Peugeot 106, in the Bulldog Rally in the North of
Wales. Nine years later, he was crowned Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion, driving a Peugeot 207 S2000. His
first season in World Rally came in 2014, with the Citroen DS3 WRC, with which he scored his first win in Argentina the
following year. He achieved a total of five WRC race wins, the last two, Mexico and Spain 2017, scored with the factory
Citroen C3 WRC.
Meeke, together with Derek Brannigan reading the notes, will join already confirmed special guests Mikko Hirvonen
and Craig Breen, while the final Rallylegend 2018 entry list is still a work in progress. The event nevertheless promises
to be something special, with an array of very special historic rally cars and big names from the rallying world both
past and present. With a constant flow of entries coming in, registration remains open until Monday 17 September.
As for the 50th anniversary of Martini Racing in motorsport, a milestone that will be celebrated at Rallylegend, a
whole host of initiatives are planned, with a number of special guests set to attend, great champions who wore the
blue-sky blue-red-white colours of the Martini brand, both in rallies and on track. Miki Biasion was one of the first
to accept the invite and will be joined by a number of big names from the worlds of rally and track.
