Jennings is GO for #HEROSPEC
Posted: January 16, 2018 3:11 AM
Irish Tarmac Rally Champion Garry Jennings and his GO Forecourt Subaru Impreza S12B are up for the challenge of #HEROSPEC!
Jennings who is the 2013 #ITRC champion, will get back behind the wheel of his Subaru for the first time since the Donegal International Rally last year. Garry views #HEROSPEC as a great shakedown for his rally season but also a way of giving something back to his long-standing sponsors GO Four-court. Garry comments;
"I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of the Subaru at #HEROSPEC, the event looks like it will be something very different and I'm happy to be a part of it. We will have many of our sponsors coming to Mondello and I plan to put on a good show!".
Garry will face some strong opposition from a host of other top WRC & R5 drivers on the unique #HEROSPEC course layout. #HEROSPEC is shaping up to get the Irish Motorsport year off to a great start!
Mondello Park is continuing to receive a steady stream of entries and we would like to remind compet-itors that the event is limited to 100 places which are filling up rapidly!
The Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Returns to Ireland!
Posted: January 15, 2018 4:19 AM
It has been almost a decade since a Mitsubishi Lancer WRC last competed on Irish soil, but that's all going to change in 2018 as one will return for #HEROSPEC!
One of the rarest of all World Rally Cars, the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC is set to take to the track at Mondello Park for the #HEROSPEC rally sprint on the 20-21st of January 2018. The last time one of these cars competed in the Republic of Ireland was in the hands of Andrew Nesbitt during the Cork 20 Rally 2006. 12 years on Tristan Bailey will bring one of these cars back.
Tristan, who is a regular competitor in the UK, is really looking forward to his first event in Ireland; “This will be MMR Rallysport’s first event in Ireland and certainly won’t be the last as myself and the cars now reside here on a permanent basis. I am really looking forward to the format of the #HEROSPEC event and I think it will be great viewing for the spectators. The car is also now available to hire for any event across Ireland” The 2004 specification car is the only one in existence and is sure to be a big crowd puller for the event. Its unique sound and aggressive looks make it one of the most loved of the all the World Rally Cars!
Entries continue to pour in with many top WRC & modified drivers committing to compete. We would like to remind competitors that the event is limited to 100 entries which are filling up rapidly! Stay tuned for more big announcements!

Regulations are now available for HEROSPEC, Ireland’s newest rallysprint, which will take place in Mondello Park on January 20-21. The 2 day, 60km event will run to Motorsport Ireland regulations but as a gesture of goodwill, HEROSPEC has reduced the entry fee from €225 to €175 to offset the license levy for those who plan on driving, while one-day passenger licenses will be available for €25 on the day.

Irish Rallying gets Exciting new season opener
Posted: December 19, 2017 2:27 PM
The new year will bring an exciting new event format to Irish Rallying with the first running of ‘HEROSPEC’ the Irish Rallysprint of Champions. The new event will run at Mondello Park on January 20th and 21st and will kick off the 2018 Rally season in style.
HEROSPEC will be two days of non-stop Rally action on a brand new Mondello Park rallysprint stage culminating in Sunday’s ‘Super Special’ style, head to head knockout competition. Saturday’s traditional rallysprint, featuring at least four runs of two laps of the rallysprint special stage for each competitor, will decide the pairings for Sunday’s shoot-out.
Sunday’s Super Special will see pairs of drivers go head to head over a specially designed course. The ‘stage’ will start in front of the main straight Grandstand with two cars lined up side by side, but tackling the course in different directions. The course will be made up of two laps of an extended version of the Rallycross track and is designed to see both drivers once again side by side as they cross the finish line, with whoever is first past the post progressing to the next round. All drivers knocked out in Round 1 will be given a second run in the ‘last chance’ competition, guaranteeing each competitor two runs on Sunday.
The new Mondello Park event is expected to attract all of Ireland’s top Rally competitors including drivers from the Tarmac Championship and National Championship but is also open to all level of competitors and all Rallycar classes. Rallycross competitors are also welcome and the addition of some of Ireland’s fastest Rallycross Supercars to the field is bound to up the level of competition.
The event, which will be organised by Mondello Park Sports Club is the brainchild of John McCay and Seán Hassett.
“We’ve been looking to create a major Rally event in the confines of Mondello Park for a while now, something that wouldn’t be your average rally sprint” said McCay.
“Following on from the announcement that the Galway International Rally was not running we felt that the Rallying needed a big event to kick off the season and that give us the spur to push ahead with our plans. With all new loose surface sections, this is Mondello Park like you’ve never seen it before. The unique track layout combines the tarmac of the track and perimeter roads with gravel sections and is sure to test even the best drivers. The event format coupled with full live streaming is sure to make this a very attractive season opener for spectators as well as competitors of all levels.”
Roddy Greene, Mondello Park’s General Manager, expressed his delight at the introduction of this new event:, saying
“We are delighted to announce this new addition to the Mondello Park calendar and hope that it will be the start of something special. The two day format combined with the new head to head format on Sunday will make this such a unique event and we are looking forward to welcoming both Rally and Rallycross competitors to the venue.”
Entries for HEROSPEC will be open shortly, with entry forms available from Mondello Park. Further information regarding the event format and entry list will be released during the build up to January 20th and 21st through Mondello Park’ web site and social media channels and dedicated HEROSPEC channels.
