Last Sunday's Jimmy Devane Memorial Autocross was hosted by Killarney & District Motor Club and the event was once again based on grass surface in Aghadoe, near Killarney town. It marked the half way point in the nine round O' Shea Munster Autocross Championship, which is definitely the business end of the season. And exciting business it is.
James Lucey (Subaru Special) was victorious with a scintillating time of 89.19seconds on the last of three timed runs. Lucey had a margin of more than 2 seconds over Michael O' Connor Jnr (Hayabusa). The Athea driver had a margin of more than one second over the special of local driver NIall Mc Larnon (Semog Buggy) who was the early leader of the event. In fourth place was Corkman Paul O' Driscoll (Semog) who now moves into the lead of the Munster Championship for the first time. O'Driscoll is the fourth different championship leader in the five events to date. Killarney winner of the last 2 years Ian Byrne did not record a time as the gearbox failed in his Nissan Turbo Special on the first timed run. The best saloon was driven by William Meade (Nova) while Orla Beamish(Nova) captured the ladies award.
After 5 rounds the O'Shea Bus Hire Munster Autocross Championhip, Paul O'Driscoll now has a clear lead with 71 points. Clareman Brian Hassett has moved up to second place with 62 point. Former leader Sean Cahill has dropped back to third with 58 points and he has Nenagh driver Whitby Moynans biting at the heels with 56 points.
Next round (Round 6) of the O'Shea Bus Hire Munster Autocross Championhip will be the Imokilly Grass autocross on Sunday October 9th.

Killarney & District Motor Club will host the 2016 Jimmy Devane Memorial Killarney Autocross on Sunday July 31st. The event will once again be based on grass surface in Aghadoe, Killarney, Co Kerry with the venue being no more than 5km from Killarney town.
The event was first held in 2011 under its current name the “Jimmy Devane Memorial Autocross”. Jimmy who was a well known autocross and rally competitor passed away in 2009 and this event is held each year in his memory.
The Jimmy Devane Cup is also awarded to the fastest time of the day at the event each year. Last year Ian Byrne took the spoils in his Nissan engined special and no doubt there will be a big battle at this years event to see who will be awarded this prestigious cup.
The event will get under way at 10:30am with sign on & scrutiny of competing vehicles. The first timed run is set to commence at 12:30pm.
Sign on, Scrutiny & Prizegiving will all take place at the venue. Entry fees for competitors will remain the same as previous years, €80 & €50 for juniors.
The event is a counting round of the 2016 Munster Autocross Championship.
This year the organisers will offer 1 competitor the chance of a refund of their entry fee with each competitor that takes part on the event getting entered automatically into a draw for their entry fee to be returned. The draw will take place at the venue before prizegiving.
Each year the Killarney & District Motor Club who are the event organisers make a donation to charity from the events proceeds and this year the chosen charity is Kerry Multiple Sclerosis.
