A number of sponsors, organisers and charities, including the Ballykelly Community and Youth Association, the nominated charity of the event, were present. The Rally is set to take place on Saturday 6th August at Shackleton, Ballykelly. This year’s event, organised by Maiden City Motor Club, is set to thrill rally fans from far and wide and boost tourism to the area by providing a truly action-packed day! Clerk of the Course,Danny Gormley, commented, “I am really looking forward to the rally and I am very confident that the team will put on a great event. It is particularly pleasing that the MJM Group, the new owners of the Shackelton complex, have come on board to support the rally, not least by providing full access for the rally stages. The roads within the complex are ideal for rallying and this event has been very successful over the past number of years. We intend to stick to the same format, which proved so popular with the competitors last year. There will be six stages totalling 36 stage miles. We have an excellent entry comprising a good mix of WRC, S2000 and clubmans cars. The competition is always intense and last year the rally finished in a dead heat. I am looking forward to once again seeing Alan McGeehan in the WRC Mini take on the 2015 winner, Joe McGonigle, in the Skoda S2000, but there are a few others in the line-up who will also have their sights set on the win.” “I am also very happy our nominated charity is once again, the Ballykelly Community and Youth Association. Both the MJM Group and the Maiden City Motor Club are keen to support communities and I am delighted that we are able to assist the valuable service this group provides in the Ballykelly area.” Founded in 1983 by owner and chairman, Brian McConville, MJM Group is a leading international specialist in new build, refurbishment and fit-out services to the marine, commercial and private sectors, ranging from cruise ship refurbishment to hotel and office regeneration. Brian McConville commented “MJM Group is delighted to be the new title sponsor for the Maiden City Motor Club’s Dogleap Rally. The Dogleap Rally is a tremendous motorsport event for enthusiasts and casual followers alike, and this sponsorship stands to benefit both parties. Now officially entitled the “MJM Group Dogleap Tarmac Stages Rally”, this event has boosted tourism and interest to the region, whist also raising vital funds for numerous charities over the years. MJM has a strong emphasis on participation and co-operation with local communities, which will be bolstered by the company participation in this prestigious event. With the purchase of the Ballykelly site, it was always MJM’s intention to ensure events like this and other schemes which use the land continue to avail of it. It is just part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the local area, which will form a massive part in the future of MJM. I would like to wish everyone taking part in the rally good luck and the company hopes that all attendees, staff and volunteers enjoy what is sure to be a memorable event.” The Deputy Mayor of The Causeway Coast and Glens Council, Councillor James McCorkell was also present at the launch and very much welcomed the return of the rally after the major success of previous years. The first car will be flagged away at 10am and the final stage will be completed by 4.30pm. The organisers have provided safe and accessible spectator areas which will offer spectacular viewing of all the rally action. Rally Luanch - (Wed) 27 Jul 16Posted: July 27, 2016 9:01 AM
