The Garda Siochana Motor club are delighted to be hosting our first Endurance
Event and we have put together a superb variety of selectives and locations. The
selectives which are on a range of surfaces vary in length from 1.2 km to 3km
and they will all be repeated so if you make a mess of it on the first loop you
can redeem yourself on the second!
The day will start with a challenging run through a quarry near Ballytore,
followed by an exciting spin through a delightful farm with some wonderful
tracks and surprises.
Crews will then tackle the brickyard ,our first of a number of visits here, so be
on your toes and pick your way through here, we then head for another
entertaining Co Wicklow farm yard to ensure a real taste of the country air.
These tests are repeated with a lunch-tea stop around 2.30 at Germaines in
Baltinglass .
Next up is a visit to Kilrush Airfield where the surface will be smooth so there
should be no heavy landings! Then it's a change of surface as PJ's quarry is next
and this will prove to be a good test of man /woman and machine.
Just when you thought it was all over we return to another quarry for further
punishment, and then to round it off its back to the brick yard for a final
selective.
It will be a welcome sight to arrive back to Germaines in Baltinglass for some
much deserved sustinence after surviving another Endurance event.
Entries include crews from many different motorsport disciplines including
Rallying / Night Navigation / Rallycross and Endurance Trial Specialists. It will be
interesting to see how the tarmac terrorists ie Gareth MacHale, Robert Barrable,
Sean O'Toole , Brian Murphy, Martin Devine and Ian Downey cope with the
different surfaces. Karl and Graham O'Donoghue are very experienced
Endurance Trial competitors and will be well used to all sorts of terrain.
Rallycrosser Dermot Carnegie has taken to Endurance trials like a duck to water
so expect to see him give the Rallying boys a run for their money. The night
navigation crews regularly encounter all sorts of terrain and challenges so Rob
Lewis, Eoin Longworth and Noel Devlin will no doubt relish the challenge.

GARDA MOTOR CLUB HOSTS FIRST ENDURANCE TRIAL
Posted: May 13, 2013 12:56 PM
The Garda Siochana Motor Club is to hold its first ever Endurance Trial on Saturday, May 25th, run out of Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. Endurance Trials (popularly referred to as Enduro rallies) are a relatively new branch of the sport in this country. They consist of short competitive sections, known as Selectives, held on private ground, with navigational elements held in between.
The emphasis of Endurance Trials is on low-cost fun, with only standard road cars of no greater engine size than 1400cc permitted. Normal road tyres must be fitted, and no turbocharged or four wheel drive models are allowed. Service crews and chase cars are also banned, as is pre-event reconnaissance. The new GSMC event will have its headquarters at Germaine's Hotel.
The Germaines of Baltinglass GSMC Endurance Trial 2013 will feature seven different selectives, each used twice. They will vary in length between 1.2km and 3km, and the surfaces will include tarmac, concrete and gravel. Following Scrutiny and Drivers’ Briefing, the Trial will get underway at 11am on Saturday, May 25th, and will continue throughout the afternoon, with the first car due to finish at 7pm. There will be a brief tea/coffee ‘pit-stop’ at 2.30pm.
The entry fee for the GSMC Endurance Trial is €150, which in this day and age represents very good value for a full day of competition. Regulations and Entry Forms for the Germaines of Baltinglass GSMC Endurance Trial are available on the club’s website, gardamotorclub.com, and also on rally.ie. The number of entries is limited to 70, so prospective entrants are advised to get their names in this week to guarantee their slots. Completed entry forms are to be returned to the Event Secretary, Sarah Ashton, Tuckmills, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow.
In addition to the standard Endurance Trial cars permitted to take part, there will also be classes for Navigation Trial and Retro Trial cars, but these will not be eligible for overall awards.
