Valvoline Motorsport Ireland Forest Rally championship moves to Waterford for this weekend's third round at the Willie Loughman Memorial Rally. The opening rounds have been dominated by Philip Morrow (Evo 9) and Mick O'Brien (Focus WRC) who have a win and a second place each and thus they are joint championship leaders with 40 points each. In third place is Martin Cairns (Impreza WRC) with 33 points. Outside the podium is Josh Moffett (Evo9) with 32 points with Shane Mc Girr fifth(Starlet RWD) with 29 points, just one point ahead of Mickey Conlon (Escort Mk2).Mc Girr leads the 2WD section while Dean Raftery (Civic) is command once again of the Junior class.
All these drivers are entered for the Willie Loughman and a classic rally is anticipated. A plethora of other drivers will be in the frame if the any of the big names slip up.Take your pick from Owen Murphy (Evo9), Josh Moffett (Evo9),Pat O'Connell (Evo9),and Vincent Mc Aree (Evo9).
If tail sliding is your thing, look no farther than the RWD cars of Shane Mc Girr (Starlet RWD) and the Escorts of Michael Conlon, Martin Mc Cormack, Seamus O' Connell, James Coleman and Paul Fitzgerald. Desi Henry and Mark Donnelly are bringing their Citroen DS3's for some pre BRC practice and it will be very interesting to compare their pace with Conlon, Mc Girr, Mc Cormack and company. For a glimpse of the future the junior category is best. Dean Raftery is the current junior champion and benchmark in this category but Daniel Cronin (Civic) Conor Mc Carthy (Civic) and David Carney (C2R2) are catching up.
The Willie Loughman Rally is hosted by Carrick on Suir Motor with Andrew Purcell as Clerk of the Course. The event includes a total stage distance of 100 kms, with nine special stages in the forests near Mullinavat, Inistioge, New Ross, Slievenamon and the famous forest complex in Gurteen Kilsheelan. It is based at the Rhu Glenn Country Club Hotel Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny, Via Waterford, Ireland, Tel: 00353 (0) 51 832 242.First car is away at 07.45 on Sunday with the finish at 1815. Local hero and current SWRC Champion Craig Breen will drive the OO car, an exercise that is run in conjunction with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Destiny or fate is defined as a predetermined course of events and that's the way it looks as Carrick on Motor Club announce the winner of their raffle to co drive for Craig Breen on the PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally. And the winner is Paul McMahon from Co. Waterford. There was certainly an element of fate as upon contacting Paul about his lucky win he disclosed he is a Pediatric Doctor in WRH (Waterford Regional Hospital).

To co drive for current SWRC champion Craig Breen on the Willie Loughman Forest Rally. That’s nine special stages, 100 km’s of rallying in the forests near Mullinavat, Inistioge, New Ross, Slievenamon and the famous forest complex in Gurteen Kilsheelan.
The twist of fate comes by way of the club running the 00car that Paul will now co drive in-conjunction with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, their nominated charity for the event and Paul was sold his lucky ticket by Yvonne O'Connor (WRH Paediatrics), who works as part of the team on the newly formed Cystic Fibrosis Project within Waterford Regional Hospital.
Upon getting the call about his win, Paul said. "This is absolutely unbelievable. I so much wanted to win this prize. I was sold the ticket by my colleague Yvonne and I told her that I would give anything to win. I'm a huge motorsport fan, I usually get in an F1 race or two during each season with my family but my history in motorsport dates back to the old Circuit of Ireland when it was a true circuit. I'm very much looking forward to meeting Craig, I can't wait to be strapped into the rallycar. I think over the next two weeks I'll be getting a crash course (no pun intended) on pacenote reading."
On making the announcement Clerk of the Course Andrew Purcell said, "It's amazing that the winner has such a connection to our nominated charity. There was a huge response to the tickets and we were hoping that the winner would be excited about winning. Paul's reaction when I called to let him know says it all. He was truly astonished and delighted, maybe it is fate. I hope he really enjoys what we and Craig have in store for him over the rally weekend."
In early March the Carrick Motor Club disclosed details that they had nominated the Waterford branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland as the their nominated charity for this years PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally. At that time the club announced they would work inconjuntion with the charity to raise funds in the lead up to and during the rally. On the announement Clerk of the Course for the rally, Andrew Purcell said, "Over the last number of years the motor club has formed valuable partnerships with local charities. We want to continue that philosophy and on this occasion I'm delighted to formally announce our new partnership with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. In deciding to work with this charity I was very impressed by the work they do. Cystic Fibrosis is a very debilitating decease and I hope the funds we raise help in some small way."
For the charity Anne Doyle, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland said, “Cystic Fibrosis Ireland commenced a fund raising drive in December 2012 to raise €250k towards the refurbishment of 4 rooms to provide paediatric isolated ensuite facilities in Waterford Regional Hospital for children in the south east with Cystic Fibrosis. We are very excited to be chosen as the charity partner for this event. The value of this project now and into the future is inestimable for children with Cystic Fibrosis in the south east region.”

The Carrick on Suir Motor Club are delighted to announce they have teamed up with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland as their nominated charity for the running of this year’s Plasticbags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally.
Announcing the collaboration between the Motor Club and charity, Clerk of the Course for the rally, Andrew Purcell said,
"Over the last number of years the club has formed valuable partnerships with local charities. On this occasion I'm delighted to formally announce our new partnership with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. In deciding to work with this charity I was very impressed by the work they do. Cystic Fibrosis is a very debilitating decease and I hope the funds we raise help in some small way."
Craig Breen to carry Cystic Fibrosis livery on 00 Car;
The partnership between the Motor Club and the charity will see Craig Breen carry the Cystic Fibrosis livery on the 00 course car on the April 14 event,
The car, Craig and members of the charity will also be fund raising in City Square, Waterford City on Saturday the 6 of April. The car will then also be in MacDonagh Junction, Shopping Centre, Kilkenny City and in Wexford Shopping Centre in the week leading up to the rally for further fund raising efforts.

Previously CF Association of Ireland was rebranded this month as Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, is a voluntary organisation that was set up by parents in 1963 to improve the treatment and facilities for people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. Willie Loughman Forest Rally gets Facelift for 2013

Whether you’re a forest rally regular or a virgin to the woods, the PlasticBags.IE 2013 Willie Loughman Forest Rally is the one event you need to enter next year! The Carrick Motor Club are giving 'Willie' a total revamp and are giving YOU the competitor an opportunity not to be missed.
As new Clerk of the Course, Andrew Purcell states, "This is a rally organised by competitors for competitors and it doesn't take a scientist to work out; this is the Rally for you in 2013."

That looks like an exciting event Andrew. "Yes, I've been eager to run my own rally for some time and after getting the approval, I set to work straight away and my first priority was a main sponsor. Clerk of the Course Andrew Purcell said, "The Rally Guide is another important milestone in the development of the 2013 Willie Loughman Forest Rally. We have expanded the usual format of the guide to also include details of our event sponsors, it would be impossible to organise the rally without their assistance so it's only fair they have the opportunity to promote their respective companies. In addition to the information provided directly for the competitors, important local contact information for business providers in Waterford City is also available in the guide and we hope that it will provide an important economic stimulus for the local economy, during the event weekend."
Trevor McGrath also highlighted, "The Rally Guide is available as an introduction to the event. To keep up to date with current information please logon to the Willie Loughman Rally section of the club site.” And Trevor concluded by stating, “We have also setup a Facebook page, which is very active as you can interact with posts about the event and you can follow the rally on twitter by searching for @carrickforestry."
