Car Driver/Navigator (Make) [Class] Talk gets serious with Stormont launch of Turkey Run!Posted: December 13, 2012 11:00 AM
Talks get serious as First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness launch the RiverRidge Recycling Turkey Run Tarmac Rally Stages at Parliament Buildings this week. Pictured at the launch with the First Minister and deputy First Minister are members of the Maiden City Motor Club and Foyle Hospice, the club's chosen charity. Turkeys definitely aren’t just for Christmas this festive season, with today’s announcement that the 2012 Shackleton Turkey Run will take place on Friday 28th December. The popular, high-octane event was launched earlier this week by First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness at Parliament Buildings. Organised by the Maiden City Motor Club and sponsored by RiverRidge Recycling, the Turkey Run will give motorsport enthusiasts a chance to blow off the cobwebs and enjoy an action-packed day away from the usual post-Christmas activities. Jon McIvor, Clerk of the Course, said, “I am really delighted to be here at Stormont launching this event. The Club is indebted to OFMDFM for the use of Shackleton. “In these austere times the Club has found it difficult to run rally stages these last few years, but with their assistance we saw an absolutely fantastic event in August of this year and all being well we are hoping to replicate this come Friday, 28th December.” The Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) has continued to be extremely generous and allowed the local Maiden City Motor Club (MCMC) to use Shackleton in Ballykelly again. This comes after the successful Dogleap Shackleton Rally which was held in the same location in August of this year. RiverRidge Recycling, a local waste management company in the North West, has also stepped up to the plate and sponsored this event. The company has a long affiliation with motorsport and also is an active member of the local community, delivering their ethos of commitment to the environment and community through practical activities and sponsoring events. Eamon Doherty, Financial Director at RiverRidge Recycling said, “RiverRidge Recycling is extremely happy that we can assist the Maiden City Motor Club and ensure that they have the additional tools they need to put on a great rally this Christmas. The Turkey Run is always a fantastic run out and really is a great tradition for those of us within motorsport.” Many entries have been already received for the rally. “It is all systems go at MCMC for the RiverRidge Recycling Turkey Run Tarmac Rally Stages. Preparations are well underway. Entries are coming in and include anumber of WRC cars – rumour has it that there might be a Mini or two in there already,” added Jon McIvor. “There will be a total of five stages to ensure that proceedings are finished before dark and prize giving will be in the Drummond Hotel in Ballykelly later that evening. “There are limited number of places still left so I’d encourage anyone who are still making up their mind to get your entry in soon so as not be disappointed. The closing date for entries is Friday 14th December 2012 and entry forms can be found at www.maidencitymotorclub.com. “The event is also open to the public so please come along and experience the heady mix of a cold December day and all that motorsport has to offer – it really is a sight to behold.” The Maiden City Motor Club's chosen charity is the Foyle Hospice.
