Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally - Sunday 28 October - ENTRIES OPEN!

Posted: September 30, 2012 11:14 AM

"In just over four weeks time, rally fever will again hit Castle Douglas for what will be the 39th running of the Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally. Or make that 29 days, 21 hours, 18 minutes and 13 seconds according to the website – but who’s counting!

The rally will feature approximately 42 forest stage miles, linked by less than 70 road miles, all for the price of £450. There will be the usual classics, including Glengap, Cairn Edward, Fleet and the ‘Raiders Road’ motorway, and some bits of forestry we haven’t used for a while. There are no other ‘hidden extras’ either – all Service and Auxiliary Service information is free.

Our forestry liaison officer has driven all the stages on offer and has picked a route which features some of the best and smoothest stages in Galloway. Bill Sturrock of ‘Scotmaps’ will again be providing Routenotes and DVD of the stages.

The rally will start and finish in Castle Douglas, where all pre-event checks and centralised servicing will take place too, on either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Things will kick off at 9am, and Car 1 will be finished by approximately 1pm, so there will be no late finishes and we’ll all be in the pub / on the boat home / back in Inverness in time to go out for dinner [Donnie McDonald, I mean you] at a very civilised hour - HAPPY DAYZ!

Stenaline will once again be supporting the event by offering special ferry rates to Irish competitors. The compact nature of the event and early finish time means that crews from across the Irish Sea can catch either the 15:30, 19:30 or 23:59 Stenaline sailings from Cairnryan to Belfast . . . or even a Monday boat like the crew of 10 from Sligo who have partied with us in Crossmichael on the Sunday night for the last few years – hi guys!

As proud sponsors for over a decade, my family and I are very fond of this rally, and as this event isn’t in a major championship it needs your support. We all go to some other events across the UK because they’re part of the championships we sign up to and we ‘have’ to – but it’s nice to think that people come to the Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally because they ‘want’ to!

The Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally is my favourite rally and I look forward to it every year. If you haven’t competed with us before, I urge you to give it a try – you never know, it might become your favourite too!

So don’t delay – enter today! You will find everything you need to know, including Stenaline information and a simple Online Entry Form, on our website: (Link below)

We look forward to seeing friends old and new in Castle Douglas in October!"

Jock Armstrong
