SCOTTISH RALLY PREVIEW DAY SET TO GO
Posted: June 22, 2012 12:20 PM
The countdown to this year’s RSAC Scottish Rally has officially begun with the preview day being held on Saturday 23rd June in Dumfries High Street.
The event will feature a selection of rally cars and there will be a host of local drivers in attendance to chat with fans about the rally.
Following on from last year there will also be an informal drivers’ forum around lunchtime (weather permitting). This is the perfect opportunity to ask drivers some questions about the upcoming Scottish Rally.
There will be a chance to win some great rally merchandise and prizes in the Charity Tombola, with all funds going to Help for Heroes.
Local driver Iain Wilson will have his Vauxhall Nova on display on Saturday. He said:
“I think it’s a great day for the people of Dumfries to get up close and personal with some of the rally drivers and their cars. The forum is popular with rally fans and there are always some great prizes to be won at the tombola”.
The hot-off-the-press official rally programme will also be available to purchase on the day with £1 from every sale going towards Help for Heroes. Other sales outlets will be announced on the rally website in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a wide range of entries have already been received for this years event with cars ranging from the latest Mitsubishis at the top of the field to various Escorts in the Historic class which will once again run at the front of the field.
The Scottish Rally is the fifth round of the Scottish Rally Championship and at the half way stage it’s tight at the top, so spectators can expect a day of fast action.
Dumfries driver David Bogie will be hoping to get his campaign back on track after a non-finish on the Jim Clark due to gearbox problems. He is currently tied with Barry Groundwater on 90 points, one ahead of Mike Faulkner. Duns-based Euan Thorburn will be confident going into the rally after taking overall honours on the Jim Clark rally.
These four drivers will be battling hard and local driver Jock Armstrong is also hoping to make his SRC return on the event.
Newton Stewart driver Mark McCulloch is also working hard to arrange a car for the event after suffering engine problems on the Jim Clark.
Safety is paramount and organisers are looking for marshals to help out on the day. If you’re interested in helping out on the day please contact the Chief Marshal, at marshals@scottishrally.co.uk
