ŠKODA UK continues support of Nicky Grist Stages Rally
Posted: May 25, 2012 11:02 AM
For the second year running, ŠKODA UK is proud to announce that it is supporting the Nicky Grist Stages Rally.
The Quinton Motor Club organised round of the BTRDA Rally Series takes place on Saturday 14 July and is based at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells. It contains 44 miles of stages on some of mid-Wales’ most challenging forest rally roads including Halfway, Route 60, Monument and Crychan – with service after every stage. The compact route includes just 45 road miles, with a start on Epynt and the finish in Builth Wells.
The relationship between ŠKODA and Nicky goes back a long way, as they teamed up together for the 2005 Wales Rally GB, when Nicky co-drove for Colin McRae in a Fabia WRC. They also competed on Rally Australia for ŠKODA, running as high as 2nd overall.
Following on from a very successful association in 2011, ŠKODA UK will again loan the Nicky Grist Stages Rally a fleet of award-winning vehicles for rally officials to use – including Yeti 4x4, Octavia Scout, Superb SE Plus and Octavia vRS.
In 2010, the event won the BTRDA Rally of the Year Award, and as well as hosting a round of this year’s REIS-Get Connected BTRDA Rally Series (Gold and Silver Star), it also counts towards the Millers Oils BTRDA 1400 Championship, the Rallyschool.co.uk BTRDA® Rally First Championship, RF1.0/F1000 Forest Challenge, MG ZR Rally Championship and the DMACK Tyres BTRDA® Historic Cup.
Nicky Grist:
“ŠKODA is making such an impact on rallying at the moment, so having the support of ŠKODA UK again this year is a real testament to the Nicky Grist Stages, and I am absolutely delighted. The cross section of cars supplied by ŠKODA UK will benefit so many who manage the rally, from the Clerk of Course to the Stewards”
Neil Cross, Clerk of the Course
“I was particularly impressed with the Yeti 4x4 I had last year. Part of my work involves going through each stage so I can ensure they are safe to open to competitors, and the Yeti 4x4 handled everything extremely well and I know the rest of the organisers felt the same about their cars. To have the support of ŠKODA UK again this year means I can concentrate on the rally and not worry about the vehicles.”
