The Citroen Racing Trophy Ireland rally series will once again provide a superb opportunity for Citroen drivers to enjoy top class competition, an unrivalled prize fund and provide opportunities for the future in 2011. Citroen Racing in association with Total and Pirelli have once again helped the Trophies world-wide enabling a generous prize fund to be offered.

With no backing this year from Citroen UK, CRT Ireland co-ordinator Raymond Moore has had a tough time to pull the series together but he is delighted to announce a new six round calendar for the series which opens with the West Cork Rally in March, and also a superb prize fund open not only to the C2 R2 Max, but the new DS3 R3 rally car. Another new facet of all the Citroen Trophies world-wide in 2011 is that the tyres will now be supplied by Pirelli.

The prize money per rally is based on the final classification in Group R of the machines, starting with 4000€ per round for 1st, €3000 for 2nd, €2000 for 3rd, €1000 for 4th and finally €500 for 5th. There is 10,500€ per round up for grabs, whilst at the end of the season the winner receives a further 6000€, 4000€ for 2nd and €2000 for 3rd. Once again is a fantastic prize fund for the competitors and therefore a huge incentive.

Registration with Citroen Racing for the Trophy is 1500€, which includes two special Trophy race-suits, shirts, etc, and the chance to win it all back in a flash with the prizes on offer! Also there are cars available for sale or hire (list below).

Once again it’s another superb season of rally action that’s shaping up in the CRT Ireland for 2011.

PIRELLI TO SUPPLY CITROEN RACING TROPHY FROM 2011

Italian tyre firm Pirelli has sealed a three-year agreement as the exclusive supplier to the prestigious Citroen Racing Trophy: a one-make rally series that will take place throughout 10 countries in 2011.

The Citroen Racing Trophy is open to all of Citroen’s two-wheel drive rally cars, including the C2-R2 MAX and the recently-unveiled DS3 R3, which claimed five class victories during its debut season last year: including third overall on the Rallye du Valais in Switzerland.

The cars will use a selection of Pirelli’s asphalt and gravel tyres this year, which are based on a technology that is similar to that of the covers supplied to the World Rally Championship, from 2008 to 2010. These were extremely resistant tyres, bearing a puncture rate of less than 0.02% over the three years when Pirelli was exclusive supplier to the series.

Specifically, the DS3 R3 will use of a 17-inch RX and RE asphalt tyre and a 15-inch K tyre on gravel.

The R2 cars will use the same range of tyres, but the asphalt RX and RE covers will be 16-inch.

The 10 countries taking part in the Citroen Racing Trophy this year are Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The ground-breaking series gives competitors the maximum flexibility by allowing them to mix and match events between different countries, with about 100 European rallies participating during the course of the season. This year’s Citroen Racing Trophy will get underway with the Rallye Torrie in Portugal and with Rallye Sunseeker in the United Kingdom, with both competitions taking place at the end of February over the same weekend.
