The 2011 ALMC Endurance Trial which takes place on Saturday the 19th February has attracted a maximum entry of sixty crews with a number of additional crews currently on the entry reserve list. The endurance trial is the first of this type of event to take place in Ireland which was first established in the UK as a low-cost motorsport event restricted to a maximum of 1400cc. Endurance trials are classed as a ‘back to basics’ event with competitors getting involved in the sport in production cars with little modification. The ALMC event kicks off with documentation and scrutiny starting at 7.30am at Luttrellstown Castle resort, Castleknock, on the outskirts of Dublin. The first trial will start at 11am with the first car expected at the finish shortly after eight that evening followed by prize giving and a well earned rest for the competitors.
The event has been welcomed by competitors from a range of motorsport disciplines including Rallying, Auto Testing, Circuit Racing, Rallycross and Retrospective Rallies to name but a few. The event has attracted over sixty entries with many names of note, including the all ALMC crew of Andy Hennessy teaming up with Peter Murphy in the Ford Anglia 105E one of Andy’s many cars. Patricia Denning better known for her exploits in both racing and more recently rallying as a 00 with William Kelly alongside will put her skills to the test in her Peugeot 106 hoping to win outright and maintain ladies honour over Fiona Driver in the Starlet. Other notable circuit racers include Dermot Carneige of Rallycross fame and Michael Cullen swapping his more familiar Ferrari for a Fiat Seicento Sport, not so much a prancing horse! Many times winner and prolific auto tester Eamon Byrne will team up with Antony Preston in a Toyota Starlet to take on the trials, they will go head to head with the all Peterson crew of Eddie and Susan and the Autostation Auto test novices of Barry Tracey and Lyndsey Doran in their trusty Toyota Starlet. World Rallying will witness the return of the Mini to the international stage in 2011 with the ALMC Endurance trial no different with no fewer than four crews hoping to be the next signing for Mini the crews included the all Gaffney pairing of Ted and Karen, James Mansfield / Tim Canniffee, the clubman of Damian Doran and Anthony O’Neill plus the might of Bobby Clinton with Dave Ray alongside. Recently crowned UK and Irish Citroën Trophy champion and 2011 Billy Coleman award winner Robert Barrable will also take part swapping his C2R2 for a Fiat Sceicento with his regular co-driver Damian Connolly alongside for the run.
