2011 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship Reverts to Six Rounds
Posted: February 23, 2011 4:09 PM
The 2011 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship will now revert to six counting rounds following the withdrawal of the Jim Clark Rally from this year's line-up.
The decision, which has been ratified by the Tarmac Rally Organisers' Association (TROA), sees the Scottish based event extend its current sabbatical from the series.
Colin Pagan, Event Director of the Jim Clark Rally, said:
"Our failure to secure funding, coupled with the current economic position, is the primary reason for the decision. We have had a very good association with the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship over a number of years and we are very keen to maintain these links but present financial pressures mitigate against this."
"However, we will be offering driver incentives to qualifying registered competitors who want to compete on the event, although it will not be a counting round of the Championship."
Championship Manger, Don Wilmont, confirmed that Championship honours would be decided on competitors' best five scores from the six rounds.
2011 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship retains support from Tourism Ireland!

This year's series has again received backing from Tourism Ireland, for the production and distribution of television coverage. The continuing support from Tourism Ireland ensures that each round of the series will be televised across Europe and beyond through RPM's excellent coverage of the series.
Championship Manager, Don Wilmont, said:
"We are extremely grateful for the continued support from Tourism Ireland. Without their backing, we wouldn't be able to showcase Ireland's premier rally championship and the character of the island on television sets across the world."
TROA Announce 2011 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship Dates
Posted: October 16, 2010 10:22 PM
Subject to Motorsport Ireland approval, TROA has announced the 2011 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship dates.
Easter is a moving date in the calendar and this has resulted in the Circuit of Ireland and the Rally of the Lakes being just one week apart.
TROA recognise that this is not an ideal situation for some competitors. However, both events, which are long standing members of TROA, have made extensive efforts to agree alternative dates, without success.
Recognising this, TROA has reduced the number of counting rounds to the best 5 scores from 7, thereby removing the compulsory requirement for competitors to compete on both rounds.

Kenmare Historic Stages to jump-start 2011 Irish Tarmac Historic Rally Championship!
Posted: October 6, 2010 9:53 AM
The Tarmac Rally Organisers Association is pleased to announce a new addition to the 2011 Irish Tarmac Historic Rally Championship calendar!
This year's Kenmare (Killarney) Historic Stages Rally, which takes place on the 4/5 December, will act as the opening round of the 2011 series.
"We are hoping that the large number of historic competitors in Kenmare will give the Irish Tarmac Historic Rally Championship a boost," said TROA Chairman, Don Wilmont. "The Kenmare Historic Rally is a very popular event and it will help raise the profile of the Historic Championship."
"The Kenmare Historic Rally is a superb addition to the Championship," Wilmont continued. "Hopefully, many competitors who contest this December's event will be enticed to return for the remainder of the series."
Kevin Flannery, Clerk of the Course for the Kenmare Historic Rally, said: "Our event is really starting to take shape and this decision by the TROA to kick off the 2011 season in Kenmare is great news."
The remaining rounds of the Historic series will remain unchanged, with the championship following its usual format throughout 2011.
After December's Kenmare Historic Rally, competitors will have a two month break before the Galway International Rally gets underway.
The series will then take crews to the Circuit of Ireland, Killarney, Jim Clark, Donegal, Ulster and Cork '20' rallies.
The 50 percent bonus points rule will still apply for Cork's final round.
Ray Cunningham sealed this year's Historic title and Aidan O'Connor won the Classic category ahead of the final round of the 2010 series.
