The Southern 4 Rally Championship, one of the most popular championships for clubmen drivers which began back in 1998, runs for the 12th time in 2010. Denis Cronin was overall winner in 2009 and will be aiming for back to back titles this year. The Quality Hotels West Cork Rally will as usual be the first round.

Competitors must register at documentation scrutiny and registration must be completed by no later than the third round. Registration costs €80 per crew or €50 per individual. The best four rounds are to count in both the modern and historic championships, and crews have to start a minimum of three events to qualify for awards. Points scored in one class may not be transferred to another.

Posted: February 11, 2010 4:27 PM

Billy Mclelland is to enter 4 rounds of the 2010 Southern 4 Rally Championship. With Discussions put in place finalised, the Crew will be entering the West Cork Rally in Clonakilty, Rally of the Lakes in Killarney, The Cork 20 in Cork City, & The Fastnet Rally In Skibbereen, as part of the teams 2010 rally campaign. Billy & new Recruit Co-Driver Alistair Wyllie from Rosscarbery in West Cork will also be entering Lurgan Park Rally in August.

We have a good package to help us for this year said Billy, & I'm looking forward to coming over to compete in Ireland for the 1st time. I've done mostly circuit tarmac events over here as well as the Jim Clark & Tour of Mull, but Irish Roads will be more of a challenge as well as the competition & loving every minute of it. I've watched the West Cork Rally & over Irish events on TV & Youtube and they other great publicity for sponsors abroad let alone Ireland. Billy also commented that having Alistair in the Navigators seat will be a big advantage for he is experienced at the top level of the sport all over Ireland & the UK for Co-driving the likes of Denis Biggerstaff, Kevin Kelleher, Adrian Quinn, & Anthony O'Halloran. & will give me great confidence not just these Rallies but Rallying in general.

Billy's Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 3 has now got the development required to mix it with the best of the top Field, with Testing planed before the first event the West Cork rally a good Result is on the cards. So far the plan is do these Rallies but Were also considering other events Commented Billy,

Bill also commented about The West Cork rally. It is a Rally with its own charm, with the beautiful scenery every where you go, The local's are brilliant people for they make you feel right at home, and Great Stages. Its mixture of all types of Rally Cars which my opinion is great for the entry last year was full despite the Recession. You had John Dalton's Darion T90, Phil Collins Mk2 Escort, Some of the previous winners like Denis Cronin & Liam McCarthy in there WRC's, and also other very fast local drivers in there Group N's & A's, Mk 2's, Toyota Corolla Twin Cam's, and Honda Civics' that I saw in the top ten last year.
