More sponsorship means just €50 enter fee!

The organising committee of the Honda Cup Ireland 2010 are absolutely delighted to announce that due to increased sponsorship from our championship sponsors, Pirelli, the entry fee for the championship has been slashed from €450 to just €50 for the whole season!
Eugene Meegan, championship organiser commented,
“We’ve had tremendous support from both our sponsors, Pirelli and Euro M-Sport, and from the participating clubs and to be able to drop the entry fee, nearly altogether, really is the icing on the cake for this year’s cup”. He added,
“This fact, coupled with some changes in the prize structure means that the Honda Cup Ireland is now a low-cost championship and also a sustainable championship looking forward to seasons ahead”.
The new entry fee is expected to boost Honda Cup entries up to new heights and, with the first round in West Cork less than three weeks away, Round 1 of the 2010 championship is set to be very competitive.
Updated regulations (HCI-10-REG3) are available on the “Info for Competitors” page of the championship website, along with the new prize structure.

Honda Cup Ireland 2010 – Exciting year ahead
Posted: November 29, 2009 6:49 PM
The 2010 Honda Cup Ireland rally championship is poised, yet again, to offer Honda drivers a series that is not to be missed. Over five rallies during the 2010 season, Honda drivers from all classes will have the chance to battle for prizes of both substantial sums of cash and terrific high value goods – the likes of which have never been offered to competitors before. Some significant changes have been made to the Honda Cup formula for the coming year – testament to the organiser’s determination to ensure that the championship is the best option for existing and new emerging talent.
We are delighted to become a recognised feeder championship for Pirelli’s new driver programme. This new initiative will direct the international motorsport tyre manufacturer’s attention towards Honda Cup drivers in the aim of nurturing worthy talent and ensuring that drivers who deserve recognition get it. Coupled with this exciting announcement is that Pirelli will now be the sole supplier of tyres for the Honda Cup Ireland 2010. With decades of experience within the highest levels of motorsport, and with the proven record of making high performance and hard wearing tyres, our registered competitors can be assured that they are competing on a very level playing field when using the superior Pirelli brand. To enhance our new partnership with Pirelli, a new championship PR Officer, Simon Slade, has been appointed to implement a PR package that will ensure that all drivers get the coverage that they need to satisfy their sponsors in the top Irish motorsport publication, Pacenotes. These articles will appear both before the championship kicks off and after each event.
The championship will be hosted by a mixture of tried and tested events as well as some exciting new ones over the coming season. As we were so heavily supported in 2009, West Cork Rally (Double-header) and Carlow Rally will remain in the calendar and will be joined by three new events; Northeast Stages Rally, Galway Summer Stages Rally and Donegal Harvest Rally. The 2010 calendar of events is designed to maximise the geographical spread of the championship and to allow competitors to experience rallying close to the five most extreme points of the country. And in a cost cutting measure for competitors, the 2010 season will only feature one 2 day event and not two as per last season – this coupled with a reduced championship entry fee means that it is accessible for a driver with the smallest of budgets.
Another significant change to the 2010 rule book is that there is a new class being introduced. The “Open” class will join the already proven “Production” and Super-Production” classes and will allow 1650cc – 2000cc modified cars (Class 13) to compete. As the 1800cc conversion is popular with EG6 and EK4 drivers, it was thought best to find a way to included them in the championship. These competitors will be joined in the “Open” class by 2000cc Group A cars and 2000cc R3 cars producing a very competitive class.
An outstanding feature of the Honda Cup Ireland is our reputation for rewarding success with high value useful prizes. The prizes will be all of high value, performance enhancing equipment as distributed by EURO M-SPORT, and the cash sums are the highest on offer within Irish rallying. In addition to the overall prizes, we will also have a prize for the first “Production” Group N car home that finishes outside the top three positions (see regulations for details) with the aim of attracting more class 2 and 3 drivers.
With the final touches being put to the 2010 regulations at the moment, they will be published in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to receive a copy, please email your name, address, mobile number and usual class to William@hondacupireland.com – our website at http://www.hondacupireland.com will be revised shortly containing the usual mix of news, event info, results, photos and press information.
We would like to thank all of the participating clubs, Pirelli, Euro M-Sport, Rebound recycled products and Meegan Motorsport for the fantastic level of support that we have received during the organisational period for the 2010 championship. We are looking forward to a very successful year working with all.
