ALISTER McRAE TO DRIVE MITSUBISHI WRC AT RALLYDAY
Posted: August 13, 2009 9:57 PM
Rallyday organisers are extremely pleased to
announce former British Rally Champion Alister
McRae's attendance at Rallyday 2009, which takes
place on Saturday 19 September at Castle Combe
Circuit. Alister, who now lives in Perth, Australia,
will make a very welcome return to this country to
star at the UK's premier rally car show in front of
an estimated 10,000 rally fans.
Alister will be driving a Mitsubishi WRC05 and the
latest Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX Group N rally car,
developed and supported by MML Sports. John
Easton, MML Sports Managing Director,
commented: "I am delighted that MML Sports is
able to support this year's Rallyday by running
two of the most evocative rally cars from recent
years. This will be the first time that MML Sports
has officially demonstrated its range and we are
excited about having both cars at the event, as
well as the full support infrastructure."
Spectators will also be able to see the McRae
Enduro on the McRae Vision stand in the centre
of the main paddock. This Rally Raid car is
similar to the vehicle in which Alister successfully
completed the gruelling Dakar Rally at the start
of 2009. For Rally Raid and off-road enthusiasts,
Rallyday introduces the all-new, dedicated Rally
Raid Zone, which will showcase numerous cars
and trucks from this exciting sport. The Rally
Raid Zone will give visitors a chance to see
vehicles such as the incredible Bowler Wildcat
in action and an opportunity to experience
white-knuckle rides on a special stage located
behind the infamous Quarry Corner.
For newcomers to Rallyday, on-track action
comes in the form of professional driving
demonstrations, track sessions, circuit
parades and the feature rally stage. There
is also a separate spectator rally stage, using
perimeter roads, plus a new sideways driving
competition - "Strictly Sideways".
Off track, there is a host of displays where
visitors can have a close look at some of the
world's most iconic rally cars, which have made
rallying history through the years. The paddock
is packed full of static displays plus the main
event stage, where rallying celebrities are
interviewed. There are also numerous trade
exhibitors, ranging from major car
manufacturers to individual specialists offering
a diverse array of rally merchandise.
Rallyday Interactive is where visitors can go
further than just spectate; whether it's a rally
simulator, radio-controlled rally cars, or a
full-on,white-knuckle ride in a selection of rally
cars, there are many activities for people to
participate in.
Tickets are exceptional value and if booked
before 31 August cost just £10 per adult and
accompanied children go FREE! Tickets on the
gate cost £15 per adult and £3 for children.

MML Sports Ltd to show Lancer EvoX and WRCar at RallyDay
Posted: July 31, 2009 3:54 PM
MML Sports Ltd has confirmed that it will be present at this year’s RallyDay, one of the year’s most important events for rally fans. Not only will the company be displaying both its Group N Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX rally car and the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05 World Rally Car, it will also have its full event support structure in place to allow rally fans a genuine insight into the operation.
Mitsubishi rally cars have always been a major part of RallyDay, this year held at the Castle Combe racetrack in Wiltshire on Saturday 19 September. However, this will be the first time MML Sports has had an official presence, since the company was only formally created in December last year, from the core of the successful Mitsubishi works rally team.
Both the MML Sports Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX Group N rally car and the Lancer WRC05 will be at the show, demonstrating the two extremes of development of the venerable Lancer model. The EvoX Group N car will be the latest version, incorporating the recent engine, damper and body developments and will be the same specification as the car which reigning British Rally Champion Guy Wilks will have driven on the car’s second competitive outing in Latvia just three weeks before.
The Lancer World Rally Car will also be the same specification as that used by reigning Hungarian Rally Champion Csaba Spitzmuller as he defends his title against no less than five other, more recent, world rally cars in his home series.
The driver of both MML Sports’ cars on the day is to be confirmed but it is widely expected to be one with considerable experience of not only rallying but also, Mitsubishi rally cars.
The company will also be treating RallyDay as a live event and as such will have its full complement of support and technical hardware in place, giving rally fans the chance to see what a manufacturer-style team looks like in action.
Commenting on the news, MML Sports Managing Director John Easton said: “I am delighted that MML Sports is able to support this year’s RallyDay by attending the event and running two of the most evocative rally cars from recent years.
“Although we have seen Mitsubishi rally cars at RallyDay in recent years, this will be the first time that MML Sports has officially demonstrated its range and we are excited about having both cars at the event, as well as the full support infrastructure.
“We will be confirming who will drive the cars in the near future. However, in the meantime, we have several rallies between now and RallyDay, including the next outing for the EvoX, so we hope to be at Castle Combe with a class-winning car by September.”
STIG BLOMQVIST TO DRIVE AUDI QUATTRO S1 E2 AT RALLYDAY
Posted: June 16, 2009 2:03 PM
World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist has confirmed his attendance at Rallyday 2009, which takes place on Saturday 19 September at Castle Combe Circuit, Wiltshire, UK.
Stig won the World Rally Championship in 1984, behind the wheel of the iconic Audi quattro, and contributed to Audi winning their second Manufacturer's title.
The quattro changed the face of rallying through the 1980s and Stig will be driving the final evolution of the mighty vehicle - in the form of the quattro S1 E2 - through the Feature Rally Stage in front of an expected 10,000 rally fans.
The example to be demonstrated is an original ex-works car owned and run by Audi UK. The 500+bhp flame-spitting machine was withdrawn from the World Rally Championship when the Group B category was banned in the late 1980s, so it will be a very rare opportunity for rally enthusiasts to see this spectacular car and driver combination in action again.
Followers of Group B will be pleased to hear that there will be a significant presence from Slowly Sideways at Rallyday this year, with owners driving and displaying their rare ex-works rally cars.
For newcomers to Rallyday, on-track action comes in the form of professional driving demonstrations, track sessions, rally car rides, circuit parades and the feature rally car stage.
Off track, there is a host of displays, where visitors can have a close look at some of the world's most iconic rally cars, which have made rallying history through the years. There are also numerous trade exhibitors, ranging from major car manufacturers to individual specialists offering a diverse array of rally merchandise.
Rallyday Interactive is where visitors can go further than just spectate. Whether it be a rally simulator, radio-controlled rally car races or a full-on white-knuckle ride in a selection of rally cars, there are many activities for people to participate in.
