Rally action returns to Nutts Corner on Saturday 8 November!
Posted: October 28, 2008 11:16 AM
Rally action will return to Nutts Corner Circuit on Saturday 8 November for the first time more than four years with North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club's (NAMCC Ltd) Rally Time Trial!
Sponsored by Coulter Demolition and Recycling (Hillsborough), the time trial is restricted to two-wheel-drive, Group N and clubman Group A cars only (World Rally Cars are not permitted).
"It's great to bring back rally cars to Nutts Corner," said Clerk of the Course, Clive Latimer. "The Motor Sports Association (MSA) has approved the circuit for all forms of licensed motorsport, and with the green light from Nutts Corner Circuit Ltd, NAMCC's event will be the first of its kind at the venue since 2004."
The event will feature a 1.7 mile stage, with competitors completing almost two laps of the circuit. It will incorporate two short stretches of the rallycross track, which features loose gravel, while the remainder of the circuit is tarmac.
The rally time trial will allow drivers to have one familiarisation run over the stage before tackling it at speed five times. As with all rally time trials, no navigators are allowed and the winner will be the competitor who sets the fastest time during any of their timed runs.
The first car will leave the start line at 10am, and spectators can pay at the gate for access to the venue. The event is organised under a Clubman rally permit, so all competitors must be a member of the organising club.
Entries are coming in fast with Toni Kelly (Civic), Liam Regan (Fiesta), Andrew Bushe (Saxo Super 1600), Alan Jardine (Mark 1 Escort), David Roe (Mark 2 Escort) and Scotland's Hugh Murdoch (Mark 2 Escort) among the leading entries received.
Speaking about Nutt's Corner Circuit Ltd, manager Gordon Duncan said: "We didn't expect to have a rally here this year and it's great to provide a venue for North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club. There is still a lot of work is planned for Nutt's Corner. We're going to have a round of the Rallycross Open Championship here in April next year, while kart racing, short circuit racing and car sprints will all take place here."
"We also have a massive improvement plan which will be carried out over the winter months," Duncan continued. "More safety work will be carried out and we're waiting for planning permission to build a new 16,000sq ft building which will house a bar, restaurant, corporate hospitality and medical centre."
NAMCC Ltd's Coulter Demolition and Recycling Rally Time Trial will provide a perfect setting to kick start the motorsport action at the popular Nutt's Corner venue. Entries for the event are still being accepted
