After a successful course in 2006, Newry & District, Rathfriland and North Armagh Motor Clubs have again got together and will be holding a Rallyschool to encourage new competitors into the exciting world of Rally sport.

The course will be held over 5 weeks and will be based in Tandragee Golf Club, Co Armagh, starting on Monday 15th September. Among the topics covered will be competing on Navigation Rallies, progressing on to Stage Rallies, Car preparation, Pacenotes, timing and everything you need to know to get you started.

Throughout the course, guest speakers will pop in and on the last night, a short rally will be organised for the pupils to test their newfound skills.

“The aim of the course is to teach the art of Rally Navigation, allowing new competitors a chance to get on the first step of the Motorsport ladder,” commented Tom Brown, one of the main tutors from the last school.

“Pupils will learn everything they need to know to allow them to successfully enter a Navigation event”.

"This is a real easy way to get involved in rallying" says David McElroy (Newry & District MC) “It gives you a good understanding of the sport before getting involved in stage rallies, after all this is were Kris Meeke started off by map reading on navigation Rallies”.

The cost has been set at £20 per person (including maps, romers, and all teaching aids to get you started) this fee covers the clubs’ costs as we are trying to get people into the sport.

The course will also be of particular use to navigators in stage rallies who maybe are not so sure of how to read maps, work out times at the next control etc.

“It’s worth remembering that while a co driver may not be able to win an event, he or she can certainly lose one by getting lost on a road section or calculating their due times incorrectly,” added Barry Taggart (North Armagh MC)
