16/02/08 Japcars.ie to back Midlands East Rally Championship Japcars.ie are set to sponsor the Midlands East Rally Championship for 2008 following the withdrawal of Sleatorauto. The popular 6 round clubman’s championship takes in rounds in Birr, Midland, Almc, Gsmc, and Castle Motor Clubs. A welcome addition to the 2008 Championship will be the North East Motorsports Club Mini Stages Rally. Fergal Costello proprietor of Japcars.ie said, “ I am delighted to get the opportunity to sponsor this championship as I feel that it a series has a great marketing potential and all the rallies are very professionally organised”. Fergal who originally is from Leitrim is a well-known driver on the rally scene. The Midlands East Championship consists of 3 Multi Stage and 3 Mini Stage Rallies making it an ideal championship for the small budget competitor. WRC Car are not eligible for this championship and this is what makes this a true Clubman’s Championship. Galway’s Gabriel Hession won the 2007 Championship in 1600cc Honda Civic navigated by Chris Crowe. Runners Up in last years championship were Longford brothers Pat & Liam Higgins only beaten by a tiebreak with Gabriel Hession. 3rd Overall was Oldcastle’s Thomas Boylan and Anthony Hoey. This years championship kicks off with Birr and District Motor Club Stages rally on 24th February based in Nenagh Co Tipperary and the remaining rounds are Midland Stages April 6th, North East Mini Stages June 22nd, Almc Stages July 6th, Castle Mini Stages August 24th and concluding with the GSMC Mini Stages October 19th. In addition to Japcars.ie the championship is also delighted to have the support from the following associate sponsors: A & A Insulation Mullingar, Tom Holton Windows Enfield, Declan Tansey Construction Mullingar, Patsy Carberry Sand & Gravel Collon and Grove Car Sales Craughwell.
