The Dirty Dozen Ireland’s Motorsport Legends in conversation with John Kenny

The Dirty Dozen ,Ireland’s Motorsport Legends, is a major new Radio Programme on RTE Radio One in which 12 of Ireland’s legendary Motorsport Racers ,speak candidly with RTE Radio Sport’s John Kenny about their life and careers, their highs ,lows and memories of racing on the National and International scene.

The programme includes the likes of Derek Daly, Rosemary Smith, Billy Coleman ,Robert Dunlop and Eddie Irvine who will take listeners through their Motorsport careers in the half hour programme on RTE Radio one in their interviews with John Kenny.

Programme One features Derek Daly who was the most successful Republic of Ireland Formula one driver, racing for the likes of Williams and March. He famously led the Monaco Grand Prix in 1982 until a last lap crash ended his chances of winning the race.

Programme 2. Rosemary Smith who was the leading female driver in the world in the 60’s.Her biggest accolade came in 1965 when she won the Tulip Rally outright for which she won the Texaco Superstar of the Year award

Programme 3 Michael Roe, British Formula 3 and the Can AM series winner in the US and Robert Dunlop is the subject of programme 4, multiple Irish champion and TT winner whose life was almost cut short by a huge accident on the Isle of Man.

Programme 5 Eddie Jordan whose exploits as a team owner with Jordan Racing and Jordan Grand Prix brought the Dubliner to the pinnacle of Formula One.

Programme 6 features Belfast Born Paddy Hopkirk became an international superstar when his Mini Cooper won the Monte Carlo Rally followed by Programme 7 which features John Watson. Ireland’s most successful Formula One driver winning 5 grand prix.

Billy Coleman speaks to John Kenny on programme 8.Coleman remains the only Irish driver to win both the Irish and British rally championships and Programme 9 is on Jeremy McWilliams ,the only Irish motor-bike racer to win a Moto Gp round ,the 250cc race in the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen.

Programme 10 ,Martin Donnelly who was amongst a handful of Irish drivers to race in Formula one but whose career was cruelly cut short after a massive accident at the Spanish Grand Prix

Programme 11 features Austin McHale ,5 time Irish Tarmac Rally Champion ,while Programme 12 is on Eddie Irvine ,who so very nearly became Irelands only Formula One world champion when his Ferrari came second to Mika Hakkinen in the 1999 season.
