Peugeot Sports Official Works driver Garry Jennings will contest the Border Counties Rally next weekend in Scotland. After the Rally of Wales was cancelled an alternative event was sought in order for Jennings to put more miles on his 206 Super 1600 in preparation for the demanding Pirelli Rally in April, now the 1st round of the 2003 British Rally Championship.

Current 206 Super Cup Champion Jennings will be surrounded by familiar faces on the event as his former colleagues and 2003 newcomers use the Border Counties as their first counting round this season in the 206 Super Cup.

Jennings commented; “After testing at Sweet Lamb last week I am starting to feel more confident about the 206 S1600. When the news came about Wales being cancelled I thought I may not get out until April. Doing the Border Counties is a good alternative.”

Co-driver and fellow Irishman Gordon Noble commented; “Seeking an alternative to Wales was really essential for us, since we need more time in the 206. The Border Counties will be a good rehearsal for the Pirelli Rally. Using Kielder Forest is great preparation.”

Mick Linford, Peugeot Motorsport Manager commented; “We organised for the 206 Super Cup to attend the Border Counties, while waiting on the BRC to seek an alternative event to replace Wales. That hasn’t happened so it was important to get Garry out before Pirelli.”

The Border Counties Rally kicks off from Jedburgh at 10.00 on Saturday 22nd. Jennings is 16th off the line. The first car returns to finish (Jedburgh) at 15:45 on Saturday.
