The Rally Du Terre D'Auvergne was the starting point for a new season and championship challenge for Billy Coleman Award winner, Rory Galligan. This event was the first round of the French 106 Championship, run high in the mountains of the south of France. Over 60 Peugeot 106's entered the 95 mile gravel event which was the first round of the French National Gravel Championship.

Early Saturday morning, Rory and new co-driver David Jones set out on the recce of the event and were shocked by condition of the roads, with large holes and rocks along the entire route. After the rally began Rory cleared the first stage without any problems, however by the end of stage 2 the rough conditions had broken the front left strut and the crew were unable to fix the problem until after stage 3. They had another clear run through stage 4 but by the end of stage 5, the front right strut was now broken and the team had lost over 4½ minutes to their fellow competitors.

By the end of the day, the rear shock absorbers of the Peugeot were severely damaged and the front suspension was suffering in the rough conditions. The team decided that the car was taking too much punishment and withdrew from the rally. It was a disappointing finish to the first event of Rory's new season.

Shaun Gallagher and co-driver Ciaran Coyle, who was co-driving in only his second stage event, also suffered due to the rough conditions but were well positioned over night and restarted the second leg 31st overall. They experienced more problems throughout the 2nd day, when the steering rack brackets broke away from the bulkhead and had to be welded many times during the day. Despite this and many other problems the crew finished a well deserved 30th overall and 17th in the Peugeot championship. This was a fantastic result for the young driver.
