Day 1 began at 18:00 on Friday evening and the competitors were faced with 10 stages over the course of the first night. Stage 1 saw Rory Galligan make a cautious start with 3 previous non finishes at the back of his mind. However by stage 7 Rory had taken the lead.

By the end of leg 1 Rory and co-driver Jonty Bolsover were leading, overcoming gear selection problems on stage 9 to head the field by 14 seconds from Martin Sansom and Seamus Donnelley.

Day 2 began at 17:00 on Saturday evening and 14 stages would take the crews all the way through to 7:00 Sunday morning. With a 14 second lead Rory knew that he could be easily caught and clocked up consistently quick times to hold his advantage at around 15 seconds for most of the night.

However on stage 21 Rory's engine began to cut out and he again experienced gear selection problems leaving him stuck in 3rd gear. At service in Craigswells Grain Store Rory's mechanics replaced what turned out to be a badly damaged gear linkage and the fly wheel sensor, hoping to solve the engine problem.

Over the next 2 stages Rory was still experiencing engine trouble and the battle was on to solve it before the long 15 mile penultimate stage. In service the map sensor was changed and this ended the engine problems. Going into the last stage Rory still had a marginal lead of 15 seconds over Martin Sansom.

A cautious drive left Rory 4th fastest but a fantastic drive saw Martin Sansom 26 seconds faster, winning the rally by 11. The top three was completed by Seamus Donnelley do-driven by Billy McCullins. With a satisfying 2nd place Rory has now climbed to 7th in the championship table, 36 points behind leader Andy Burnell.

Round 6 is the Quinton Stages in Wales on July 29th.
