Round 3, 1999 Jerry Murphy Race and Rally Tyres Munster Autocross Championship

Killarney was at its most picturesque last Sunday, with snow capped mountains and blue skies to greet the visitor.The autocross teams were in town, for the first race of the year in Doyles pit, just outside the town. The loose autocross was the first round of the Darby O Gill Killarney Autocross Championship and the third round of the Jerry Murphy Tyres Munster Autocross Championship.

The event was dominated by the Percy brothers from Nenagh. Driving his Kawasaki special, Gordon Percy was fastest after the first and second timed run. However,on the third of four timed runs, Richard Percy hurled his Ford special round the Kerry track to record the fastest time of the day,a fifth of one second quicker than Gordon. Top saloon driver, Mike O Connor Snr, finished an excellent third overall in the Mazda 323, just two seconds ahead of fellow Limerickman Joe Shinnors in the Ford Escort.
