Legend Fires MSA Asphalt Rally Championship/BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series
With just under three weeks to go until the start of the 2007 Legend Fires MSA Asphalt Rally Championship & the BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series, the signs are that we have a very competitive season in prospect!
The John Price Rallying Tour of Epynt opens the proceedings on Sunday 4th March and already confirmed for the MSA Championship are MELVYN EVANS, DAMIAN COLE & JOHN COPE (Subaru Impreza WRCs), STEVE HENDY (Ford Focus WRC) and series sponsor JOHN STONE (Hyundai Accent WRC).
The Group N contingent, who will be battling for the newly-instigated ‘Andrew Haill Associates’ trophy, looks to be particularly popular. They are led by 2006 winners BOB ‘THE LOG’ DENNIS/RON ROUGHEAD in their Subaru Impreza. Squaring up to the Geordies will be the similar car of CHRIS RICE and a host of Mitsubishi Lancers for MARK MORGAN & STEPHEN TAYLOR (EVO8s) and DAVID BOGIE & TOMMI GRAHAM (EVO9s).
2006 Prima Motorsport Clubman’s Cup winners ROB & PAULA ALDERMAN (Ford Escort RS) are moving up to the MSA Championship this year and will be joined in Class B11 by PETE HUGHES/CHRIS EVANS in their own Escort RS.
Meanwhile, the Legend Fires BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series is proving to be very popular with competitors. Registrations received so far have greatly exceeded expectations and, once again, we have good reason to expect some excellent competition. Among those already signed up are CHRIS DAVIS/BRANDON PARKER (Darrian T90) whose speed and consistency took them to 3rd overall in the Asphalt Championship in 2005. Fellow Darrian pilot MIKE TREGONING is also returning, while MARK WELCH will spend the first part of the season acclimatising himself to his recently-acquired left-hand drive Ford Escort Cosworth.
There are also Subarus aplenty with PETE DONNACHIE, ADRIAN SPENCER, ALLAN SMITH and ELIOT DUNMORE already confirmed.
MSA ASPHALT RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
ALL FIRED UP FOR 2007!The organisers of the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship are delighted to announce that Legend Fires are to take on the mantle of headline sponsor for the 2007 series. At the same time, based on competitors’ comments in a recent ‘Questionnaire’, a major revision of the constituent parts of the Championship is in place for next year.
MD of Blackburn-based Legend Fires, and well-known series competitor, John Stone is very enthusiastic regarding his company’s new venture. “I’ve always been a fan of the Asphalt Championship and I believe that the changes to the calendar for next year will prove to have a beneficial effect for everyone involved. Legend Fires are pleased to be associated with the premier UK Asphalt Series and look forward to seeing it move from strength to strength.”
In response to popular demand, for the first time in a number of years the 2007 Legend Fires MSA Asphalt Rally Championship will include a visit to an event in Southern Ireland. The Sligo Stages (8th July) fills the gap created by the movement of the Jim Clark Rally to the end of May, and the full calendar is as follows :

- Manx National Rally - 11-12 May 07
- Jim Clark Rally - 25-27 May 07
- Sligo Stages Rally - 8 Jul 07
- Ulster Rally - 31 Aug-1 Sep 07
- Cheviot National Rally - 11 Nov 07 (Date Change)
